Mark III Starter conversion

Hello Stephen,
The parts you would need would be the brush plate, with places for 4 brushes and two more field coils; I am now sure you can get these from a Harley dealer without purchasing the starter complete than stripping it of these parts. Alternatively you could seek a used starter and take the parts from it, but they, by definition, would be beat up. The Prestolite catalog has the parts you need, I did it this way, but require a very talented individual to install and get right.
If you want some real starter power there are two out there that solve the problem and bolt right on:

I'm sure that there are others, but they would ne roughly the same price. Given the number of talented members of this forum it wouldn't surprise me if one (some) have done this personally and can offer more detailed advice; my advice: purchase a new, 4 brush, 4 field coil unit and move on to your other Norton weak points.

Others take an aftermarket Harley four brush starter, and combine the two, and toss the rest. Never done it, but I know that's what Baxter's used to do.
Like the Road Scholar posting, I'd go with the "Dave" starter. It's made a lot of the four brush conversion talk diminish considerably.
