Hey all,

I made the jump and bought a single flat slide 34mm Mikuni to replace the single old round slide carb on my 71 Commando. When I removed the old carb, obviously, I removed the tube connecting it to the intake manifold. I don't know what brand the manifold is, but it looks like it is stamped with "SI" on the top. Someone used what looks like a piece of radiator hose to connect the two. And because I switched to the flat slide, I trimmed the rubber tube to help the fitment of the carb.

My question is this: I was wondering if there is a proper tube to use, or should I try to fit the old tube back into place?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I talked with sudco and they said they didn't have what I was looking for.

There's nothing for the rubber tube to bolt to. I'm not so much looking for a flange and just a tube.

I may be able to help you. Call the shop tomorrow afternoon (after 2 PM est) and I'll see what I can do for you, assuming that you haven't solved your problem by then.

Is this what you need?

How about a picture of your manifold?

Yes, please send a photo of your carb and intake manifold with the "tube" removed. I just went out to take a look at my TM34 and my carb to manifold adaptor looks very similar to what mikegray660 posted.

Cunning swine use REINFORCED radiator tube, from Bulldozer / industrial source . IF they have to use a coustom piece. As it WONT Split . Wich could lead to trouble .Why I know a H2 thats big end went after the rubber tube split , scrap metal .

So I took a second look at it last night.

Manifold to Carb

I didn't realize it Sunday night that I could remove that dark grey flange. Which looks like someone fabricated.

I suppose my question now is whether it's better to buy the rubber flange like mikegray660 shared or order a metal one like those from clubman racing and some tube like rpatton posted?

Too much stuff to buy but I don't know what the right solution is.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Have a look at the J.P.N. Monocoque thread currently running,[viz, Steve A`s recent post] ,- he has posted a link to a photo of a `74 spaceframe which clearly shows the Amal Mk 2 Concentric mounting sleeve you require, - from memory, it has internal ribs that locate positively, but if you go with a cut off hose section you may have to use some kind of adhesive or mechanical means of preventing it slipping off, even when hose clamped.

What you have there will work, I guess, if you can find the right piece of tube to couple up to that carb. What does the outside measure up to be.

Before you go and buy a 34mm adapter, measure your flange mounting bolt hole to adapter centers. There are 2 different ones. If your manifold is for a 36mm and above, the mounting hole will be too wide for the 34mm flange.

If you have to, I have opened a 34mm flange hole before to fit on a 36mm manifold. I recall the flange part itself has metal impregnated with the rubber around it so it was fasten able. Much less cost than buying a new manifold. What you have may have been a solution to the differance in centers hole measurments. Do some checking.

By the way, you WILL love that TM34.

Why not spring for a 2nd TM 34, & run both? HVC Cycle [on line store] sells them for a reasonable price - they will pre-jet for you like-wise.

just buy that flange and be done with it - for some $30 it is the right part and not some monkey piece of sheet - the carb will fit right and it will be a airtight seal - the VM34 and TM34 both will fit the same flange (i've switched them out to compare the VM to the TM - there is a minor bit of difference of the TM over the VM @ higher RPMs - a stock bike putted around may not show much difference as the VM is an excellent carb too)

Hi,
Clubman racing sells the type of one-into-two manifold that you must have. I don't know if they could sell you the rubber tube but you give them a call and find out.

Hey, Geo, just curious if you're heading on down to Florida this winter?? I moved to a new house off the beach last year and would be happy to meet up and have a beer / coffee if you find yourself in the general neighborhood. Send me a PM if it's a "go".
