Another question,
Am about to install the barrel, head, and carbs on my 1967 Atlas. My RGM gasket set included a very thin one piece gasket that goes between my finned individual manifolds and the head. I also have individual thick heat insulators. What is the correct install order? The thin gasket, then the heat insulator, then the manifold, then the O ring flanged Concentric carb?

I don't know if Norton overrode it, but AMAL says head, insulator, O-ring - no gaskets. Some here put a gasket on each side of the insulator. Some use gasket sealer on the insulator. I have never done either. I do make sure that both the head and manifold are smooth and flat.

The really important thing is to not over-tighten the manifold to carb or in fact any AMAL carbs screws. AMAL says to simply tighten until the spring washers are flat - tiny bit more is OK, much more and the carb will be warped.

The more layers you have, the more places to have air leaks. Make your surfaces as flat as possible. As stated insulator, manifold, then carb o-ring. I use black Yamabond at the head/insulator/manifold joint.
