Maiden ride epic tale

Some days I even do 2 things, even if one of them is getting up. I've spent the last 2 years trying to get something done with my spinal stenosis and the last guy I talked to told me 'there's nothing else we can do for you'. I'm learning to live with it, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. When I was younger I never even though about being 76.

I also live with the spinal BS and can't say I like it in the least, but regardless of pain and discomfort one has to force issues to maintain a decent quality of life. I'm gonna ride my Norton because it's a point I cannot concede without feeling as if I'm surrendering to the problem.
You're up nine years on me so I know you can fight...just keep slugging away.

Never take no from a doctor. Find one that will say yes.

I'm still looking. It was the spine surgeon that wouldn't do anything more. All the docs I talk to say surgery may produce nothing, and that's not a good outcome plus no one wants to go there, can't blame them. I can live with it for now, it's more of an aggravation than pain. But it sure makes everything a chore and my legs weak. Nerve issue. I'm seeing a neurologist now to see where he can go. May be PT is the best option.

Look into a implanted spinal cord stimulator. I've had one for three years generally helps a great deal. I've als0 started using CBD oil. I now will get a couple hours in the morning of "0" pain and up to 4hours in the afternoon. Able to finally sleep 8 hours a night!

I gave the CBD a try to enable cutting back more on the dilaudid, but it just didn't help me enough...It's been pretty bad these past 8 years, though I've still managed to cut back 4mg per day...I know it ain't much, but still it is progress. Sometimes nothing helps and I'll not have my entire spine flayed.
Dr. Joe recommends we all just keep on riding our beasties and deal with it because welcome to getting old.

It's not the pain. Most days I don't even take Tylenol or Asprin. Some days I do. But there have been Percocet days too, but hardly any. We'll see what the neurologist says. It may have to do with that 03 accident where I fractured my neck. That bothers me more than anything but the PT got me so I'm mostly pain free. I'm just worn out all the time, but I do work through it, I can still walk several miles and up the 200' hill to the house without stopping. Gets my heart rate up to 120 or so. But I don't have the balance or stamina any more so I don't bike. Some days are good and some not so good. Enough of this crap. At least I was out shooting the 22 most of today.

I loved shooting, but I began to have tremors about 25 years ago which have progressed to the point where I can no longer aim most days. With twitching fingers also & eyes going there's not much point trying. I CAN still Commando though and I'm not giving that up. Neurologist has helped this to some degree....I know what happens when you give up trying. I wish you good fortune in your endeavors to keep your health.
PT had me where I almost couldn't get out of bed so had to stop it & pain became unbearable.

Resonates with me . You might have to change your riding technique. I now use back of heel to change down . Works well enough but have had to sacrifice my Avon fairing and go back to standard riding position.

For many years on the forum I was under the impression that Dog T was the young guy in his picture. It was only a few years ago that I realized he was an old codger. Figuratively speaking of course. I am amazed at his fortitude in maintaining and riding his Norton. I am a mere 71 year old and am facing my future riding in decline. Although I added a new battery , hand grips , plugs, and patched a weep in my trusty fiberglass tank, I have not had a ride on my beast for over a year.
When the weather cools I need to venture out.

I will be shocked if I’m riding in twenty years like you guys. Heck, if I can walk I’ll be doing good. Then again trying to ride that Proddy will probably do me in before then.

Your bike makes my back hurt just looking at it. It's lovely, but definitely not for me.

My PT lady who is straight from the Highlands asked what type of bikes I ride .... she wanted info ‘cause in her opinion it way better for our older backs to be leaning slightly forward with feet below hips.... she say the lazyboy position is not good for anyone’s back especially combined with vibration .... I like her, she hurts me and then I feel better !

Dave, somehow I seem to have missed this thread and as it's been "bumped" just started from page one. Those first two photos are stunning. It's not enough to just click "Like" I had to tell you I LOVE those pictures. Your proddy racer is bloody gorgeous, the yellow really pops against the background. You must be very pleased, despite the early setback.

This just had to be brought up and force me to look at Dave's proddy some more.... Well.... more lost sleep thinking of what could have been... He does have a saucy looking little tart there. Proddy Porn.

To be honest the last picture you saw was the last time I rode it.

I've done some more sorting and got it started a couple weeks ago, it's still a bear to start when cold. Wetsumping doesn't help either. It's off the bench now so queued up for the next ride. Not sure when that will be, maybe tomorrow morning? Record highs tomorrow, near 90˚F which is hot for this time of year up here. God bless that global warning stuff!

Holey cow, 90°? They're talking about freezing here tonight. It's hardly been above 50 here all spring. But soon I'm sure it will be in the 80's with accompanying humidity.

BTW, I started taking CoQ10 couple months ago and it's really helped me, it's been a game changer as to how I feel. Not that the nerve issues have gone away, but I feel somewhat motivated and not worn out all the time. I started taking it because doc keeps trying to get me taking statins and it always makes me feel dead, so the doc recommended CoQ10 and boy did it make a diff for me. I can tolerate a low dose of statins too.
