Hi folks, I've just done the flashing neutral light fix (thanks again Tony) and while I was in the speedo case anyway, I did the patch cable to the low fuel light supply as i've never seen mine come on. Should it illuminate when you turn on the ignition ?

Cheers,

cliffa.

No . Only when the fuel level drops to about 1/2 gal remaining . If you want to drain the fuel out you can test it this way.

From an empty tank to full, measured carefully 15 1/2 litres.
I think you can only access about 3.5 US Gallons without being close to running out. So , that seems about right . 15.5 L = 4.09 US gallons . You will never get to all of the gas , you "might" get to 3.6 US gal or 3.7 US gal. but that's really pushing it !

I'm pleased to say the light came on yesterday :) (and the neutral light has stopped winking at me).

Question with the low fuel sensor relay… mine was working but seems to have stopped working.
1) Does the fuel pump assembly have to be plugged into the harness for the relay to work? My tank and pump are off the bike at the moment.
2) this is the low fuel relay the relay that’s under the tank?
3) If so, I have a small black/yellow wire that goes from the under tank relay to the positive battery post. It appears to have a small bulge in the wire that has a heat shrink type material over it. I’m thinking this is the resistor?
My question is what should the Voltage be , from this small wire from the battery to the relay? I have 13.2 V at the battery post but only 2-3V at the wire spade, at the relay. If that makes any sense…
Thanks everyone!!
Shayne

Also, when i power up the bike, with no tank or pump plugged in(if that matters), I dont not hear any relay “click” or feel the relay click.
If the relay has failed, is there a special relay that’s is used for the low fuel relay?
Would anyone have a brand and part number of said relay…?
Thanks

I think all the relays are the same part number. The Honda Omron are the ones I am using now. Do a search and you will find the part number. There are also Bosch brand I have not used these . The resistor you are seeing is most likely the fuel low level light flashing fix. And yes the fuel pump must be plugged in and bike key on for the relay to work. There are some improvements that can be made to those fixes , look these up also when you do your search. I don’t recall which relay it is at the moment , so please verify first.

Thanks Tony. I’m familiar with the Honda relays. I updated all of the relays in the tail section a few years ago with the Honda type. I’ll keep that in mind.
What about that 2-3v at the relay when it’s tested? Does that make sense?

What’s happening is the current is being pulled from your battery through that resistor to the relay coil to ground. The upgrade would be to run the wire to a switched with key on 12v source not directly to the battery. The only problem with the way it is now is it drains your battery when the bike is not running. So yes 2-3v makes sense.
