Low fuel indicator flashing when tank is full

Good morning, I have purchased a 2011 961 1000miles , which I extremely pleased with except for 1 annoying thing. The low fuel indicator ( the orange fuel pump symbol ) continuously flashes randomly even tho the tank is full. I have removed the tank thinking the sender may be faulty but the indicator is flashing exactly the same. Could someone help me please. Many thanks in advance. Dave

Ok, so 50k resistor in place , light stopped flickering and off, reinstalled empty tank light stayed off. Any ideas please

Mmm, that’s strange. Have you definitely reconnected everything?

If so have a look at the fuse box. Do all the other lamps illuminate?

BTW - Annoyingly it doesn’t come on as part of the power up cycle. Only when the fuel gets low.

The low fuel relay ? Have you tried exchanging it with one of its neighbors ? You can also check continuity on the wiring with your ohm meter . Could also be the fuel pump sender not working .

Thank you everyone, I think I have sussed it. User error I think. I was expecting it to come on immediately once ignition was on but there appears to be a delay before it registers . Light off with empty tank , light off when I add fuel.😀

Fuel light fix, practically plug and play.

Interesting, I'll have a measure later before I drop the tank on. The resistor size won't have made any difference to the drain, but looking at that diagram it's connected to an ign live, not battery live....which obviously makes sense as its a key on concern.

Yes, there's a difference in parasitic drain with or without the patch lead, but tbh I'm not worried about it, as in this case I only measured a 1mA difference. I'll measure a few more though to build up a picture.

Hi Stu , 1ma more drain would exactly double my current (0.9ma) parasitic drain and I don't want that . I would try your patch cable with a 50K or 100K resistor and measure again. Admittedly , the patch cable may be easier to fit !

You're wired through a switched live, you could replace the resister with a 21w bulb and it'll still have the same affect on a parasitic drain in that way, as with the key off its open circuit, so the resistor value has no bearing on it. It's a good idea to wire through the switched live though, 100%. Does make me question why they never did that at Norton.
The fuel lamp relay should have a switched live on it too though actually, when I'm awake I'll have a look to see if that can be altered...but eitherway 0.001A is making no difference (ignore the overall drain, the bike has allsorts added on, we're comparing with or without the patch lead). 0.9mA is pretty incredible though, my multimeter doesn't go down to 0.0009A.
