Flashing fuel light suppressor/patch

Ok, cheers Tony.

From what you say, if it's just a 1Kohm resistor it sounds straightforward enough to make up a lead & connect it in, so I will try that.

Thanks again... :)

Others have used 10K ohms and I have been told that 50K ohms will also work.

Ha. Didn't work. Still flashes. Only with the headlight on. No the signals, the pilot nor the high beam.,only the headlight. I'm absolutely positive I hooked it up correctly. Maybe the wire is broken inside the insulation

Well I made up a lead with a 1Kohm resistor in it and fitted it between terminal 3 of the fuel light relay (black/yellow) and the +ve terminal of the battery. So far so good, as the light hasn't flashed again . . . . . . yet.! :)

As is often the case, one job leads to another however.! With the tank off I found a couple of other jobs to sort out. The saddle which carries the battery and ignition coil was starting to look a bit scabby around some of the edges where the powder coating was beginning to flake off, so that was attended to. The battery strap had stretched and deformed because one of the metal eyelets had snapped on one side, so that was replaced. Finally, there were a few small chips at the front of the tank, probably where someone had wrestled it on or off before and not taken enough care with it. This was carefully touched in.

All in all, a worthwhile exercise and fingers crossed the fuel light will still activate when it's meant to...

Haha....you have a battery strap?? Had to use a long zip tie on mine since I didn't have a strap. I'd love to see that. Also, I did use the #3 prong with the B/Y attached. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with my bike only having 1 relay under the tank instead of 2. I still haven't gotten any info on this. Richard 07, do you or your dad's bikes only have one relay under the tank? My bike is a '13 like yours. Also, while I only had about a half pint of gas in the tank, the flashing didn't come on AND the fuel light didn't come on either. My fuel light is garbage and allowed me to run out of gas without ever coming on. Only when I put gas in the tank did it come on. SO....works when the tank is full.....dark when its empty. GO FIGURE THAT ONE

Could the relay have gone bad ? You can test it with some jumper wires to 12 v and ground.

My bike has two relays so I can’t speak for a single relay set up, sorry. On a two relay set up, the fuel pump & the fuel light have separate relays so maybe this was done because of the single relay causing interference to the fuel light in the first place? I don’t know. I guess that’s a question for the factory...

As for the battery strap, a Royal Enfield bullet one is the perfect length. The metal ends aren’t quite wide enough to fit over the lugs, but it’s easy enough to bend these yourself from some 2mm tig wire.

Was your bike built before December 2013 ? I can have a look at the drawings .

You must have a PRE December 2013 , You do not have the crank time lights off relay . That is the other relay you don't have . So , no problem you wire the patch in just the same. Pin 3 (BY black/yellow/ wire of the Fuel warning light relay to +12V with that patch cable . When its hooked up you should have +12v on pin 3 of that relay (check with a DVM ). Make sure you don't have a broken wire , either in the patch cable , OR the wire leading to the low fuel light in the speedo . This patch should work ..

Exactly what I did Tony. Wire went from pac kg age to relay. The fit was tight but nothing snapped. As I posted with the tank empty there was no fuel light at all illuminated and then when I gassed it up it started flashing with the headlight on. And only the headlight on. There was no interference from directional signals or the high beam the pilot light.

Maybe a bad wire going to the speedo unit ? I'm sure there is a reason . Can you ohm it out ?

Yea...there's always a reason. Know what? Since the bike was off the road for a while, that stud didn't exactly line up perfectly like the original tank bracket bolt, (not bad, but need a buddy to push on the tank a little to line it up) and its running fairly well, I'm not taking the tank of again for a while. Screw it. I'll turn the high beam on if the flashing drives me nuts.

Update on the flickering fuel light.

After making up & fitting a 1Kohm patch lead between black/yellow & batt+ the light has so far behaved impeccably & only come on when I reached a low fuel level, so happy days.!

Thanks to those who gave advice on the subject. It worked.! :)

Did I mention I ran out of gas. That's when it DIDN"T illuminate.
