Longer fork gaiters?

Anyone know where to get some that fit Commandos? I've extended my effective fork length using the Fauth kit, so now my original gaiters don't quite measure up. Thanks - BrianK

I think I've heard of using motocross ones.

I had the very 1st Fuath kit and found once on bike the sag made standard gaiter just right, so I left mine loose at bottoms for top outs but gave normal coverage in actual use that matters. Better check that sag factor before ordering. The real issue is finding gaiter material that lasts more than a couple-3 years.

I found mine with gaiers, but really don't like them in general. Anyway I have been suggested to keep them anyway as the only system to protect the stanchions on this bike.. Is a so bad idea to take them off? Any idea on this?

most people take them off because they trap moisture and then you get rusty fork legs

I got a pair from Mick. Genuine. Measure to be 8" uninstalled.
Although you can pull the forks all the way down and have the
boot on the slider and just under the 3x clamp you will need to
use some sort of glue and a hose clamp to hold them there.
They need to be about 1 1/2 longer. Ill ask them about it.
Hose clamps are very unsightly.
As for rust, make sure the airbleed hole in the bottom of
the gaiters is clear and I point mine aft. It doesn hurt to
pull them off the sliders regularly and wipe them out
and spray some silicone on the legs.

After installing the Fauth kit, my gaiters were too short too.

I used zip ties and black silicone seal. After setting up over night, they stretched out sufficiently. They look fine, not too stretched.

I don't know how long they were originally. They'd been on the bike for maybe 20 years so they had a "set" that was shorter than their original length.

Been installing the Lansdowne kit over the past weekend and took the forks apart to check things out and clean out the old oil.

I have heard this gaiter water trapping warning for years. All I can say is my fork legs looked shiny brand new and there was no trace of moisture. I did grease the tubes before ty-wrapping the gaiters in place. This was maybe 15-18 years ago and the bike sat in the garage for about 8 years of that. There are small drain holes in the gaiters which I positioned facing towards the engine and down. Was happy to see the lack of wear on the fork tubes too. On most ungaitered bikes I usually I see a wear pattern about the size of a quarter near the top of the sliders. So anyway gaiters work for me.

There is zip tie like metal straps generally sold to hold exhaust wrap on. Its nice and compact looking and functional.

I like the look of gaiters as makes stanchions look less spindly and protect the road and bug grit wearing the seals. Here's how i deflect this w/o gaiter on my SV650. Does not deflect goats which just wipe em right off, so much drink some more for replacements.
