I have an intense dislike for the stock Lucas plastic turn signals so I bought some aluminum Lockhart Phillips units based on a recommendation I read here. $20/pair ordered directly from them and delivery was VERY fast via priority mail. The units are made in Taiwan, quality is good, and they use a 23W bulb so they are bright. The bulbs have a base like an 1156 but the globe is much smaller, I still need to research spares. Anyway, they are designed to clamp to a 14mm (9/16") stalk and I wanted to retain the original stalks so I made an adapter. The Norton stalks evidently have a British thread but I discovered that it is close to 8mm/1.25 mm pitch so I used a tap that size...the fit is a bit loose and I'd never go this route for anything critical but it is OK in this case along with some Loctite. The Mk I version shown is very crude and I intend to do a better job on the next 3 but the basic concept seems to work OK so far...

edit: I'd wrongly thought the LP fittings supplied were too small at the waist to drill and tap to M8...cut them down, tried it and they seem OK AND should look and fit much better than my DIY effort.
The fittings are aluminum so they are very easy to cut, drill, and tap...also FWIW I used a cordless drill at low speed to do the tapping, a trick I learned on the job and worked great.
The aluminum adapters shown are only good for the rear stalks, the front ones are bigger so I will have to make those from scratch, need to find some 14mm round aluminum stock
