Locked Up

10B-1 chain is correct and it doesn't matter who makes it when made to the 10B-1 standard. I have much more here on the subject: https://gregmarsh.com/MC/Chains.aspx
I got a good deal on this, cost me $311 nzd all up for 100ft, the whole roll , freight was dear, but it is heavy. Half links when required are necessary but the ones with the pin and spilt pin are wide, I expect everyone else knows this, but does everyone know about these? Pic attached.

I brought my last chain from Andy the chain man before he retired and shipped to Aus I think it cost 49 pounds at the time and delivered to my front door for all up just over $100AU, his son Jason has taken over and you get the right chain for our Nortons, that was a few years ago now and the chain has about 20k miles on it and still as good as the day I fitted it. haven't even adjusted it since it's been on.

I was told today that Motor Grade Renolds chains of correct lengths are available from the larger MC suppliers like Baxter, Steadfast and Classic Bike Spares. But they are quite pricey. They may have a KCM chain that is the approx. width also.

Try IWIS chain from The Chain Man.

Renolds is now made in chyna!!!
why do you want to go there.

Reynolds WAS a great name in England.... Once upon a time.... when they were true in the 70's. But when hard times starts to make them go sideways.... well !!! it was the CHYNA option which then slid in. The lowest common denominator for profit goes into place.... but the name is there.... what about the name. Please respect the name. I don' of course.;)
YMMV.

Even in the 80s Renolds had gone down hill. I used to use their Grand Prix chain on my T140. I had to adjust it EVERY RIDE !

Compare that to the IWIS I run now on my T140 from The Chain Man… adjustment is an annual service item !

But there is still lots of Renolds old stock around in the USA, made in the UK, Germany as well as France. If the chain won't rub with wider chains you can use any brand of the Standard type that you can get in the USA. If you have to get it from overseas it is way too expensive to ship it here. I never broke a chain on my Nortons and very few people have put the power down like I have or my race bikes did. I always check where anything I buy is made.

I have bought 2 IWIS chains. In my opinion they are the best and not overly expensive for what you get. As stated previous[y, you hardly ever have to adjust them. I may be wrong, but I believe AN is now stocking them

IWIS from the chainman. I bought 4-5 sets the last time I was there and flew them all back in my suitcase.
It is that good. Slightly blue-ish in color.

I have 530 x ring on my 3 Nortons. It might be the wrong chain but it sure works well and lasts forever. Never adjust until it's time to throw away, at which point I'll be keeping the bikes in the underground parking at the Help Me Home. This raises a question. Do Help Me Homes have underground parking for motorcycles? If not, I refuse to go.

Caution: IWIS makes two chains called "Elite". Those from AN (and I assume the chainman) fit OK (may or may not be legal for motorcycle use). Those from Wassell are really just 530 chains and too wide. When you see sellers in the US selling "Elite" you can be pretty sure they came from Wassell! AN confuses things by describing them as 530.

As far as I know, Wassell represents them correctly, but they do not fit Nortons or most Triumphs. They are no different from standard duty 530 chains you can buy elsewhere for less:

530 = 5/8" between pins and nominally 3/8" between side plates. 10B-1 also are 5/8" x 3/8" but the plates are thinner, and the pins (especially master link) are shorter.

So much endless clucking about a simple part.

I've used these standard duty 530 chains for years.
Great results.

I did go to a 530 x-ring chain a couple years ago. Fits great, no drama.

I have access to every type of industrial drive available, but buying motorcycle chain from motorcycle vendors is so easy.

Back to the original problem. Possibly bent the main shaft or failure of the layshaft bearing?

It's likely a broken gear tooth. Dave is new to this so he'll probably need help. There has to be someone local who can give him a hand. How about it guys?
