Which ones have the best diffusion? My speedo light is very lame.

And it depends on whether you have wedge or bayonet fixture.

The light will never be fantastic, due to the clock/hole design.

Got mine off fleabay a couple of weeks back. Capless (wedge) work fine and you can have bright white or warm. Just reverse fit for possy earth.

Hi Pete, are those original instruments, or modern copies. Mine are original and with the led bulbs I put in [ they were designed as dash bulbs and only 4 LED's on each bulb facing straight out.], are no where near as what you are getting. Mine are not bright enough [ for my eyes ] and only illuminate the LHS of the area.

The key is the lumens, I got the highest lumens for bulb type required.

Original Veglia w/ one bulb hole. As kommando states get the highest lumens possible, but also look for beam pattern. The bulbs I am using are 360 degrees, the ones with a narrow beam just light up a small section of the face. It took a couple of attempts to find the right bulb.

If you are willing to go to the trouble, painting the inside of the instruments case white, will somewhat improve the light distribution.

There was a thread on this Forum, where the poster showed how to fabricate LED's on a strip into stop/tail configurations. This technique could be used to fashion 360 degree illumination by bonding the strip around the inside of the instrument case. Use the search function to find that thread.

The picture is a little deceiving. The gauges are actually a soft red and very easy to see at night without being obtrusive, but with 100% coverage. The same with the warning lights which are regular incandescent bulbs. Cell phone photo made everything seem to have sharp glare.

I bought four for £10.60 (2 each for the Domminatrix and Commando).
Came in a few days and seem very bright.

Is there a good substitute for the round bulb bayonet style? Most of the multi-LED versions I see look to be too big to fit through the hole.
