Yes , Also after your ride put your fingers under the starter close to where it bolts to the case. carefully feel for oil on the starter only . Is this the SF or Domi I have forgotten ? The domi air box could be an oil leak also because of the way the air filter positions at the bottom especially if you are discharging oil from the breather . My piston rings replacement at Cootes is starting to pay dividends , much less oil to air box. Incredibly its taken 3000 miles for them to bed in.

Voodooo, regarding the oil collecting below the starter motor. It can be caused by oil weeping out of the pipe connected to the crankcase breather. The pipe isn’t a particularly tight fit and a lot of oil gets pumped into the air/oil separator that has to drain back in again. Speaking from my own personal experience so your situation may be different - but could be worth looking at.
I’ll double check that.

I did confirm that the factory transmission vent works as it should with no blockage.

I have a evap smoke machine, I may put that into the crank case and see where the smoke is blowing from will pin point the oil leak.

My concern isn’t the air box. That’s very minimal. If it’s not the starter Ive always wondered if it was the crank case gasket.

I doubt very much its the crankcase gasket . If you get oil on your fingers touching the starter only after your ride , then your starter is weeping primary/trans oil. This is a VERY COMMON problem during these years. A Aussie or NZ member ground down the area of a 5/16" allen wrench . Grind narrower For About 2 inches or so above the ball end. I did the same to my wrench and was able to do the starter change without disturbing the clutch at all. So its an easier job for you I am sure. I wouldn't bother trying to seal up the old starter and just opt for a NEW leak free and smooth Norton Starter from Donington. Take the old one apart and see what you think and maybe fix it if you want to. I can post the picture if you like or you may be able to find it with a search.

I didn’t realize you could swap starters without removing the clutch.
When you say ground down, you mean the wrench itself correct?

The internal O ring in the started may be bad. My bike had the starter gasket changed, cases split and resealed, breather kit installed. The oil leak finally ceased when the starter was changed. Once again, according to Matt Capri of South Bay Norton, that oil leak is probably the most misdiagnosed leak with these bikes. In my case, he was right.

Yes the wrench itself. I will post a picture in the next couple days. The l/h bolt is a straight shot. The r/h bolt is slightly obscured by the clutch ring gear.

Exactly the same as on my old Sportster then!
