My stock 72 Lockheed caliper is leaking past the outside piston onto the disk. I rebuilt it about 2000 miles ago with stainless pistons; Truedisk ground original disk, AP pads, new lines and a sleeved mc. Is this a common problem? Are some piston seals better than others? Even when it had good lever pressure the brake wasn’t great. I’ll search the forum for pad recommendations, but any insight will be appreciated. Ben

I've never had one leak with new seals and pistons. Are you sure you thoroughly cleaned the seal groove? I've used AN rebuild kits, Wassell rebuild kits, and other rebuild kits - they all seem the same to me.

There's a good chance you didn't get the inner side fully bled. I counted the last one I bled - 97 slow and gentle pumps before all the air was out. They aren't great brakes to start with so anything that reduces their efficiency really makes them bad.

I also use Truedisk and AP pads so I see no fault there.

Tedious hours with a sharp hooked scribe scraping the corrosion from the corners of the seal grooves.
If you hurried past that, you’re banished to repeat it.
2000 miles & how much time?
DOT 3/4 fluid?

If the pads are contaminated with fluid, I don't think they'll brake well.
Will probably need to regrind the pad.

Maybe try rebuilding another caliper. They are cheap enough on Ebay.
Are you using any lubricant on the seals when you put them in?
Not all brake lubricants are compatible with rubber , so I just use brake fluid now.

About 8 months since the rebuild. Worked fine until about three weeks ago. I’ll check the grooves and try new seals and pads. Thanks for the feedback.

Are you positive it is the caliper that is leaking? I've investigated what I thought might be brake fluid on disk/hub area only to find my brake side fork damper rod bolt weeping fork fluid that then gets onto disk.
