I assembled a MK3 tranny which I received mostly in bits, I fitted a layshaft roller and the endfloat is 1/16", I know its ideal to have 5 or 10 thou, my question is , is it normal to have to shim about 1/16" after fitting the roller bearing? what is the thickest rear isolastic shim?

The kick start shaft and bush in the end of it can also effect the end float, I cant remember the measurement but I had to put a thick shim in the end of the kick start shaft against the bronze bush to get some clearance between first gear and the end of the shaft, then I only needed a couple of thin ISO shims to get the overall float right.

yes Cheesy, I can see that if the kickstart bush is to short or pressed in to far that it would create excess end float.
looks like I'll be doing the same, thanks.

I made a 60 thou shim to fit in front of the kickstart bush, this gave me 6 thou end float, the advantage of using the Iso shims would be to keep the kicker shaft inboard as much as possible to lessen the chance of jumping out of 1st.
I expect mine will be ok now though.
