Lansdowne Dampers returning

Hi Jim, I know John had made modifications to address topping out, I havent had time to do long testing to check this, my minimal testing was to confirm that I had everything right with the compression and rebound.
Regarding the Turcite bushings there has been a bit of discussion here regarding these, my concern would be customers easily damaging them
while fitting them. You obviously have your Turcite bushing kits sorted so yes I'm sure they would also be an improvement for the forks.
I may have to try them my self sometime

Yes I think John addressed the top out issue. He made this upgrade to his kit in late 2010. I don't know of anyone damaging the Turcite bushings on installation - they are pretty much an easy drop in and are fine as long as no one takes a hammer to them. Its much more pleasant to eliminate the top out "clunk" and I hope (I think its the case) that the Landsdowne kit achieves this.

I use Jims bushes in my race bike with the Lansdowne upgrade, works fine and no clunking
Regards Mike

Received my set a few days ago, and I have to say that the components look beautiful.
I had a 'to do' job to dismantle the front fork to repaint the yokes anyway, so I'll be killing two birds with one stone.
Unfortunately, the temperatures are sub 10°C/50°F, so it may have to wait a while .

Just got mine as well. This will provides an incentive to strip and clean the front forks. And install the Hyde fork brace, drilled rotor, and stainless brake hose, all of which I have storing forever.
Holy crap, it will look and feel like a different bike.......

I am fitting my Lansdowne kit that came promptly(Thanks Don).
I have taken the originals out, fitted new ones, filled with oil, and the screwed top nuts down onto rodsand tightened onto the nuts that hold the springs in. However I cannot get them to then turn to engage with the thread on the staunchions.... am I missing something?

Johnny's issue sorted, in its extended position (spring loaded) a piston had become stuck temporarily, a slight tap downwards solved that.
I packed another 20 kits yesterday and checked that this was not an issue with any of them before packaging them and it wasnt.
Its good to ask, thanks Johnny for the feedback

I am planning the install of my recently arrived Lansdowne Dampers, and recall reading an old thread that strongly recommended the use of a close fitting 6 point hex wrench to tighten the top fork nuts. The nuts on the Lansdowne Dampers are aluminum alloy and are easily damaged if you use the usual crappy fitting 12 point socket, oversize crescent wrench, etc.
Don, I was wondering if you would consider making some of these wrenches, so when folks buy the dampers they could order the tool at the same time. Just a thought.

If you have a six point socket or box wrench, put on the belt sander/grinder to remover the bevel leed in.

I didnt use my supplied wrench. I used a 6 point 1/2" socket and it worked great.

Yep always do this to my sockets it's gives a much better contact area hence less damage to the fasteners

Thanks to Don and John Bould's family for enabling this upgrade to be available, once again, to the Norton community.

I placed my order on Friday and had received the package on the following Monday. Very prompt communication and expedition by Don.
I look forward to installing these units once I have received my new stanchions, bushes and seals. If they perform as good as they look, then I'm sure I'll be pleased.
