Rebuilding the gearbox on my 1974 Commando Roadster and have a question about the kickstarter pawl pin. I replaced the pawl and the pin is slightly proud of the surface that fits into the inner cover. I am concerned that the slight rise in the pin will interfere with shimming the kickstart and could grind into the inner cover.

Should I grind the pawl pin down a little so it lays flush? I would remove the pin and grind that so I do not risk damaging the kickstarter.

I wouldn't think that would be much of an issue but if you think it could cause a problem gently file the head of the pin down. You might also look at the thinnest part of the kick start stub shaft and make sure it isn't cracked. Not a common problem but I have seen it.
