Well I had another smooth commute home the other night, 20 miles up the mountain into the woods. The next morning, the kicker was locked solid, I removed the plugs just to have a look, and got nowhere. so I pushed the bike into my laundry room, and caught a ride into town with Mrs.

As I was pushing the bike around, I noticed it was in gear, and the motor was turning.

This morning I gave it a kick, and it turned.

Does this sound like the dreaded layshaft bearing, or would I be safe riding back into town where I have my tools and shop?

THANKS

Don

Ah so, though the woods and up the Mt on an eager smooth Commando, ahhhh.

Lay bearing failure reports almost all have reported sudden surprise KS snatch down and locking rear. Locking KS lever sounds more like pawl parts breaking up or lever snagging on foot peg stalk. its also possible the 1st cog paper thin bush is cracking up too. Posting here is good for working up the enthusiasm to dig in and tell us what is really going on...

The Layshaft bearing issue surfaces as riding by a "tic... tic... tic... sound" as a precursor to imminent failure = lock-up = death or worse. If your kicker kicks back-wards and hurts the backside of your calf well then that's another warning to be taken seriously. Get to work.

+1 one for Torontonian. I would take this seriously. The bike is trying to tell you something.
