Dear all.
I don’t know how to explain.
I was today on the road and something hurts at my ankle. The kicker lever moves in 1-2-3 gear to footrest against my foot.
After my stop I discover that the lever moves once I shift the 1 gear and release the clutch.
This happen also I do shift in the 2 and 3 gear.
Only in the 4 gear the kicker lever will be in place.
It seems i have a huge issue with my gear box.
Unfortunately I have no idea how to discribe and search that issue by this forum.
Maybe someone can share a link?
Or is this a well known issue?
Thank you in advance.
With best regards
Lorenz

If you mean the kickstart lever is swinging backwards and forwards on its own then that is usually a symptom of the layshaft drive-side bearing breaking up.

If it is, then I strongly suggest you do not ride the bike any further
.

Do you know if the layshaft drive-side bearing has been upgraded or not?

Yup, what he said. This is a big deal.
I'll repeat it, DON'T RIDE TILL IT'S CORRECTED.....
Search 'Layshaft Bearing' on this site...

Hi
Thank you for reply.
It’s impossible to ride. I strictly will not touch the bike onc e the gearbox is repaired.
No sorry, I have no idea if upgradet.
Bike is from US an 45 years young.
I will open the box.

Thanks to all of you for the kind help and Links.
Now I can start my rework.
As I said:
Riding is impossible and dangerous.
With best regards

There is a DVD by Mick Hemmings which goes over the whole gearbox. Well worth it of you can get your hands on one.

It is indeed dangerous. When it fails, it can (and usually does) lock up the rear wheel even if you pull in the clutch lever. This failure mode has injured several (many?) riders who were unaware of the possible consequences.
