I have replaced to "O" ring twice on my kick start shaft and it still leaks.

I am considering milling the shaft hole in the cover to accept an oil seal but I would appreciate any suggestions to avoid this procedure.
Thanks!
Stephen

Some people have had good success with a X-ring or quad ring (same thing) like one illustrated here:

Use one with the same dimensions as the stock O ring--don't know what that is off hand though.

Having your case machined for a proper oil seal is the long term answer and you can do the shift shaft seal at the same time.

A standard oilseal will fit behind the steel bush but it does need fixing in place with a strong adhesive/sealant. I use Cyano. Silicone does not stand up very well IMO. Seal size is 1" x 1-1/4" x 1/8" (8C 125 100 12 on my TTO piece). Works well with no machining but that would be preferred.

The leaking seal at the kickstart shaft could be caused by a layshaft bearing getting very close to "expire".
