Hello all, I am new to NORTONs, I purchased a 1974 Commando Roadster last spring and rode it for the season.

Today I put on a set or rearsets from Clubman and a set of "M" bars. The arrangement feels great, more aggressive seating position and should take pressure off my lower back.

I do have some close tolerances with the kick lever. It sticks out too far and rubs my ankle. I have 1/2 inch clearance to the exhaust pipes and 3/4 inch to the right foot peg when folded up for starting.

The distance from the inner surface that aligns next to the motor and the center of the kick lever (not the pedal) is 3 inches.

I am not sure if I have the correct lever.

1. Is there an alternate lever that would be 1/2 inch closer to the bike?

2. What is the difference between levers 06-1464 and 12-1018?

3. Is this a case where I use the torch? I would hate to bend and discolor a perfectly good lever?

Thank you for your assistance.

I have the same setup on my 74 and that looks pretty much the same as mine...

Wondering... could you clock the lever forward to say 1:00 position? Should give you some ankle room.

It's a touchy balance getting all the parts to work without touching. Expiroment with micro changes until you find the best compromise. I have several sets of rearsets and a reverse Norvil lever. Personaly I have gone back to a old set of Dunstall's and the older (750) type kick start lever. This way the kickstart lever is at about 1:00 clock position and while my ancle does touch, it's not pushed into it. It's not a perfect world & I'm still changing stuff on my bike. Have a long way to go. I can't post pics from my phone but I'll see if Paul can post a picture of mine for you.

I see you have a MKIII kick lever there. I had the some situation. The earlier kicklever will give much better clearance, not perfect, but very livable. You can tweak the shift lever a bit without hurting it. I opened mine up a bit and moved the kicklever forward on the splines to achive the best comfort.

Old 750 kicker cleared fold up John Tnkle resets but poked me in calf until I ground back the peg stops so it folded way more inward and misses everything now. I will try to make up my own linkage to under shot the shift shaft to retain the indicator pointer. I hope.

I installed a norvil set today. Very similar to the clubman. Moved the kickstart so that the Shifter barely clears the kicker when the Shifter is in full upward travel. Worked out great. Starter doesn't touch my leg, and seems like I get a bit more umph out of my kicks, due to higher engagement.
