Has anyone tried this alleged mod? There are reports on the NOC site, but no pics or actual descriptions of how it's done.

A Kawi ZX6 side stand, mounted to the drive-side engine plate does away with the problematic Featherbed clamping stand. I bought a cheapie on ebay, but I don't see how it would mount with a reasonable amount of lean angle, but without the upper spring pin interfering with the frame tube.

Shortening the spring pin? Additional plate bolted outside the stock, typical frame plate?

What is problematic about the stock Featherbed sidestand? AFAIK, no one has reported chronic failures.

I do not kick start on the side stand.

I do not fully tighten the clamp ..... in that way, I can adjust the lean angle if the terrain should require it.

58 years and still going ......

Slick

I've heard of breakages of the clamp (and seen many stands for sale missing the inside half of the clamp), and both my featherbeds have terrible dents from their past lives. plus (!) the kawi stands are $15.

some of the time i end up needing to kick using the stand, as i have a bad right hip (at only 45. damn!) and can't kick straddling the bike. my leg just doesn't go that direction anymore with any strength.

hoping to make something that would take some strain off the frame. i've made a weld-on lug using a section of longitudinally split tube, that works with a stand i've got, but it would still be on the frame and i'd rather have the stand be on something more sacrificial, and not give the 70 year old frame any more heat. the bike in question has no center stand lugs from a past life as a racer.

They might use a different longer stand arm and foot with the clamp than the ZX6.
Have no information.
