That rear hub is crying out for it's valance plate on the right side...

Otherwise, absolutely gorgeous.

Superb!

PS GP, that valance piece is the first thing I took off on my "S" when I bought it new in '69, the bike itself lost a primary chain inspection cover and a heat shield in the first ride home from the shop I bought it from.

this is a 69 second hand, never restored, apart new 18" wheels for a better tires choice (bridgestone BT45) and a single carb Sudco conversion.

yessss never restored, we found it in a swap meet.
the last owner was sixties years old and he just discovered new life pleasures with a XK140 Jaguar, so the Norton had suddenly become obsolete in his eyes. A kind of bargain.

I removed mine several years back and feel it looks far, far better !!

I feel the valance plate looks positively 'bland" ~ But HEY ~ thats what personal chocie is all about... 8)

But I am stunned to beleive that this is unrestored ~ a SUPERB model ~ and is what I wanted befoer I was pressed into buying the 850 ..

A delicious moment:on the pix we are at the swap meet, two years ago in March too. My friend JJB on the left ask me: "What do you think of this one?"

I said :Run forrest... rrrrun! and he bought it.

Yep, it just occurred to me that those shots don't show the carb conversion. I thought as an unrestored bike, adding the rear brake valance plate would put it right up at the top, but the other-than-stock carb means it will always be "just that close" to the top instead.

Still, I am one of those who, the more very nice examples of fastbacks they see (like this one), the more the "odd" styling and details start to grow on me.

Another thing I ditched is the forward mudguard stay ~ I thought there might be repercussions in doing this.. but it looks far better and has had no negative results...

I agree in as much as subtle updates, gradually appeal to the eye..

As recently posted ~
