I like those angled fuel pipes. Where did you get them?
Those Emgo filters are crap as the rubber boots come of so easily.
Do you have the part# for the K&N's

I have looked on the K&N filter site and have come up with this part numbers that are same size and shape as the supplied filters that Jim supplies, I am going to get a set of K&N filters next week, K&N filter RC-2340, have a look on the K&N site to see what you think.

Ashley

Hi Ashman, they look the business, will see if they are available on my side of the ditch, be good for Bike # 2 carbs when done.
Am still looking at the K&N filter in the original modified C'do housing as per previous post and pics on here. Like the look of that to fill the gap behind and below the carbs. Going to adapt to side open so don't have to remove 4 x parts to remove/replace oval filter.this will be for Bike #1
Regards Mike

Repco over here stock K&N filters don't know if you have Repco over your way but most Auto stores probly will be able to get them, but the K&N web site will give you the nearest suppliers near you, thats all I did just put my post code in and they came up with the nearest dealers.

Ashley

HI Ashman, did that and yes plenty of Repco outlets in NZ and several close to home. I like K&N's Seach with Dimensions page.
Not home at presnt will post pics when i do the mod, let us know if you think yours breath better once fitted.
Regards Mike

This is how I run my fuel lines

straight run to the carbies and I have nomal and reseve tap as I have a habbit of running out of fuel, has a few hose clamps but.

K&N will custom make any air filter design you come up with. Guaranteed for life, not much more $$ than standard K&Ns. Made mine for single Mikuni with steeply angled Sonny Angel manifold. Don

Yes the fuel filter is a Pingle

The K&Ns are good filters but I would have to boost my prices $80 and I don't like the color.

Ashman - Let me know how the K&Ns work out compared to the Emgos.

Guido - what do you mean by "the rubberboots come off so easily". The air cleaners are a tight fit to even assemble let alone get them off the bike. I now have to cut the air cleaner boot shorter just to give them enough room and they are still too tight for some Commandos.

call me old. call me stupid. call me any thing you want, but i don't understand why anyone would spend thousands of dollars on their motor and running gear, but not $50.00 on a proper filter?? Don

On the filter itself. It comes out out the chrome body.
If it was for the close proximity to the back plate I would have lost one.
It just keeps coming off.
No biggie as I am gonna try the KN's.
I just love these carbs, I will never go back to the Anals again.

I would like to know where to get the angled inlet pipes, anyone?

The angled inlets are no longer available from anyone, anywhere that I can find. I have just ordered hundreds of them to be made new - an expensive bummer.

Guido - You're the only one who has ever reported a problem with the air filter (other than being tight against the back plate). Maybe you got a defect. Yes K&Ns are probably better but at 4xs the price. If the K&Ns don't work out - I'll send you a replacement if you want. The K&N RC-2340 (below) cant' be any longer that the Emgos or it won't fit.

after first buying my JS flat slides, I too had a little problem with them wanting to fall off

really, all it took was to carefully make sure the air filters were aligned equally all the way around, and then holding that while slowly tightening the big lock ring

no problems ever since, I just had to learn patient technique

love my flat slides

I would never go back to Amals or any single carb I have tried in the past

Is this because they have to be forced on & into place and so get loosened from the chrome collar in the process?

Hi Jim,

no, the filters slip on with little effort, except the part between the carbs, because that is a tight area that you cannot see and which must be kind of felt

When I put mine on I find I need to keep some "spreading the carbs apart pressure" to make sure I get the filter fully forward and equally all around, and especially between the carbs area

and then when you tighten the lock ring, I make sure the lock ring itself stays equally pushed forward all around,
as it can tend to slip off between the carbs

once I got this concept, my air filters stay put perfectly

Jim in some of my earlier posts I indicated the air cleaners did touch the backing plate and you modified your carb to air cleaner boots on the strength of that. Thanks
One thing that did hapeen was the chrome end cap fell off one of the air cleaners, whether that was due to the intial rubbing on the backing plate of not, I doubt it as I only did a few km's before trimming the boots. Had to sikaflex it back on.

I've had no problems with the Emgo filters. What we need is a double tee like this TT to meet in the middle below the intake manifolds and thence to allow the reserve side of the tank and its petcock to function per original design.

I've looked and couldn't find a double tee like this - TT

Yeah, two tees works but it's complicated and untidy.

Thats why I came up with the simplified plumbing kit as in the photos below.

This way you combine both the Ts and the fuel filter for the cleanest & simplest plumbing. And yest - the reserve works.

Setting up your fuel lines for the best flow will take twice as long than putting you Flatslides on your bike.

The original Orings may have had some swelling problems when exposed to gas. The new thinner Orings are on the right below. The size of the smaller Oring is 1-3/8 ID x 1-9/16 OD. I use square section but round will work.

Thanks for sharing the pics, I may steal that fuel line routing, And where did you get that filter? it looks pretty trick.

The fuel line / filter setup that Jim has here listed in the above pic, works great.... It should, it was my idea. :-) That is a picture of my bike.

My EMGO filters fell apart too. The chrome cap on both of my filters came loose. One fell off in my garage. The other was hanging by a thread...luckily I noticed. I got a hot glue gun and re-attached them. I have a feeling that the heat of the engine will eventually cause the glue to lose its hold. when they do give way, i will give the k&ns a shot. Mne probably got worn out from frequent removal when i was swapping out jets and fine tuning the setup.

Jim was great to work with and the bike runs great. I am still fine tuning the carbs as they are very sensitive, but hopefully i will get it the way i want it soon.

Just got home from AK. This mess of parts was at the house!

My wife not only ordered the kit, it seems to have the snazzy filter as well :)

This is gonna be fun :)
