IoM TT 1950 Film

Great film thanks for linking to it !

So very many points of interest, my grandson however was absorbed and gobsmacked by the brakeshoe turning in the lathe and the the chap having no extract or face mask.
What " fun " we had years ago without health and safety sanitising everything.

and almost no straw bales etc….

When I first started road racing, it was on a bike which my mate had built. He was associated with an Irish man called Baldo Meli. Meli had worked for the Triumph factory, and in about 1950 - finished 12th in the Senior on the IOM. It was probably on a rigid-framed Tiger 100 Triumph. I always thought he was insane. But in later years, I have come to believe what he was saying is correct.
In those days, their mentality was a bit different. Being funny about safety is OK, as long as you don't mind losing your mates.
When you first start racing, force yourself to go slow.

My wife has told me it is OK for me to race again, but if I crash I must die. What she does not realise is for me to end-up on the deck, somebody else has to intentionally crash me. Most people are not homicidal.

Mr Meli ........ see below ;)
