Can't shine any light on the capacities.
But that sure is a big decal on the black tank !

P.S. Emailed the same seller about a tank n stuff he had last week.
Slimline tank (+1960) listed as a Model 7 tank 1950 - which it sure wasn't.
Not too strong in the tanks dept, we think ?? Good looking items though, possibly (?).

Maybe this ratio is confusing the measures. Ad just says 6 gallons now.

7.5 gal(US Liq) = 6.24505 gal(UK)

When will the penny drop....
I'm sure most people would be happy to buy a good clean UNPAINTED tank.
Too bad if you want a yellow one.

I've bought stuff from that seller ($koto) off of ebay before and I was satisfied. Can't remember exactly which parts I got from him, but they were as advertised and shipped quickly. Cj

OK guys...the seller says the black tank "looks much larger than the red tank". If these are both original tanks then I would think somebody would have heard of a 7-1/2 gallon Interstate tank. I can't find any reference to one, nor is it listed in the workshop manual. The Long Range Fastback is there, so it seems like a Euro-style Interstate would be listed.

Still seeking a mythbuster here...

The first steel Interstate tanks were a replica of the glass-fibre but had a larger internal capacity due to being thinner walled.

At some point during the 850 production, they took the decision to slim down the tank. I'm not quite certain when it occurred but have never seen an original Mk3 Interstate with the wider tank. They tend to be referred to in the UK as 'Mk3 Interstate' tanks but knowing Norton the change would never have occurred concurrent with the model change.

Check these two auctions:

Is there a "Euro-style" 7-1/2 gallon tank? I thought the different capacities you see listed are due to fiberglass vs steel. But both of those are steel tanks.

Russ

PS - yes, I sent the seller a question about whether he could see one tank was bigger than the other...but I have yet to get a reply.

After looking in my notes the early fiberglass fuel tanks were 5.25 UK gallons------24 liter==========6.34 gallon

The new model 1973 steel Interstate tanks were advertised as 27 liters------------7.13 US gallons
The 1974 MK2A steel Interstate tanks were advertised as 24 liters ---------------6.34 US gallons
the 1975 MK3 models used the same smaller tank as the MK2A

Hope this helps.

my very first commando did have one off those 27l tanks and it came with the bike , no aftermarket stuff
never saw another one
it was very uncomfy and on longer runs my girlfriend helped keeping my knees together , ooh those early days.........
