This is of course, confusing. I measured my original bars from my '74 using both methods. The illustrations Dave posted, and as above with the bar laying on the table with the "handles" down. The bars have a 5" rise when measured per Dave's post with the "handles" in a horizontal position. They have a 4" rise when the are laying with the handles down. This is measuring from the table to the top of the bar. The two different methods produce different pullback measurements as well. However as near as I can tell this is very close to the 06.1046 bar offered.
I also have bars on my 73 Interstate that seem to match the original bars from the 1974 bike but I cannot verify whether or not they are original from that period. It is a little difficult to verify the measurements exactly when the bars are mounted with controls attached. I bought a new set of bars for the '74 bike that were supposed to be Western bars but they did not match. I was disappointed. However after all this measuring I suspect I was sold the wrong bar either through my ignorance or neglect (or worse) on the part of the vendor. They were part of a larger order of sale items from a vendor in Canada that has a fairly good rep, except when they don't.
I am going to order a 04.106 bar from somebody I trust, like Old Britts and see if it actually matches my rusted up original. It might be a while as I might as well work up a full list of parts before getting them shipped.
Maylar, as for as finding something with say a 6" rise, I don't know what to say.
