Interstate tank and clip ons

Has anyone tried this combination? Im considering the purchase of a Manx 5 gallon tank to fit my Cdo, but dont know if i need the indentations for the clip ons or not. The manx tank is obviously a different shape to the Interstate, but the dimensions are similar. Has anyone who's fitted clip ons with an Interstate tank had clearance issues with the bars hitting the tank on full lock?
 
had a '73 Interstate and added clip-ons and rear sets ... no problem at all and liked the position at 6'2"

Way back i fitted flat bars to mine.
It tool a bit of adjusting to get everything tweaked, but it worked.
Still dented the tank in "unusual circomstances".
 
The Interstate tank pushes you to the back of the bike. The low bars will fold you forward. Pretty sure rear sets are required to avoid the monkey f***ing the football position.

Stephen Hill: Or kangaroo and marble, as Fullauto used to put it! Either way im sure you're right.

I've got a set of Madass's rear sets with an Interstate tank at the mo, as I found it pretty uncomfortable with standard bars and footrests. The riding position is ptetty good now.

If you’ve got an interstate tank, why not keep it?

Unto each his own etc… but to my eye the Interstate tank looks like it belongs on a Commando. Manx style tanks do not.

Interstate tank with rearsets, euro spec bars, and a set of home made bar mounts to bring them up an inch and back an inch. I'm 5'7" so I needed a bit of help. Puts me in the same riding position as my 07 Suzuki Bandit.

Thanks FE, as you say each to their own. I've been through both Roadster and Interstate guises, and after 20 years with this bike I fancy a change really. Besides, I've always liked the Manx on steroids look the Manx tank gives a Cdo!

The 'Photos of your your Cdo' thread, has a picture of Acadian's bike. He has clip ons and a Manx tank without indentations, so I think I have my answer! I s'pose they can always be added later if really needed. Thanks for all the replies!

Intetesting solution to the problem, MikeG, and thanks for posting. I s'pose the obvious thing to try next is the clip ons, to suss the riding position before the Interstate tank comes off...

Well, you clearly can’t be saved from yourself…

These folks used to do Manx tanks for Commandos, dunno if they still do, but worth a look:

I have almost the same set up as Mike. I have dunstall rear sets, an interstate tank, and I used "1 and 1" offset brackets to bring my almost flat bars up an inch and back an inch. I also have the issue of a dunstall fairing, so I modified the yoke stops to keep the handlebars from smashing into the tank... If I had to do anything else to keep making my ergonomics better, I would try to lower the seat padding by 1", but I don't want to ruin a custom seat...

The clip on's were a step too far for me. I was trying to get a little wind blockage for highway speeds from the fairing without laying down more to get out of the wind and having more body weight on my hands

Lol, thanks FE. TAB in Wales do a decent looking one as well. They also do a 3 1/2 gallon 'mini manx', which DukePaul's bike (also on the Photos thread) has. It looks good too, but I prefer the 5 gallon meself... Acadian's is by Bartell, but I dont think they're around any longer?

o0Norton0o, i've seen several pics of your bike over the years and always admired your original approach. To me, it's what the Interstate might've looked like if production had continued a few more years. Thanks for posting.
