I have acquired a pair of Interstate covers that are fibreglass and of unknown heritage.. Whilst they look and feel of substancial quality, the RHS cover clashes with the oil tank at the rear end.... My frame is 72 and i assume the oil tank is also..

Question is, are all oil tanks the same throughout the Commando series????...... Should the side cover "just" fit on without fuss ????

Do i need to "move" the oil tank or modify the cover???? or am i missing something...

I have noticed several forum member have "swapped" from roadster to interstate and visa-versa with no indication that oil tank issues were involved. This is why i thought the covers would just fit...

My '72 oil tank cover bolted on pretty close to tank enough it tended to touch-vibrate so I put a small cushion between their large suface and thin rubber washers under top bolts. I didn't bother with the rubber bumper at the bottom. Maybe your fiber covers are distorted as pretty hard to distort tank w/o destroying frame and pilot first. Photo of the clash might help figure it out.

Ive since pulled the tanks out and the holes in the fibreglass panel are almost a full hole out.. Meaning the tank is too fat (impossible) or the dish/hollowed inside of panel is too shallow.. Think i will be removing the two upper mounting holes and enlarge that upper flange and bore new holes to suit.

I guess that the fibreglass covers being 6mm+ thick in places doesnt help alignment of holes.. They fit now!! :D :D :D
