I keep seeing how the instrument bezels are peened over by using a lathe.
How does this work?
Anyone do this?
Photos?

I haven't seen it but imagine you would still need some form of disc in the chuck with a recess machined to suit the bezel shape up to the rolled over section.
Some form of wheeling tool could then be attached to the compound.
Given the gauge body would still need to be restrained, even at a very low turning speed it might be hair raising.
It could certainly be made to work.

Thing is the metal on the bezel is real soft and takes the bending easy and doesn't crack the chrome, so it's a lot easier than it appears. If you had a tapered press for the back of the bezel, it would probably work, not unlike re-forming brass for rifle/pistol cartridges. But it would only be worth making a press if you were to do lots of them. Someone should make one to pass around. I'm not capable since I still don't have a lathe.

I do, maybe it will be something to get around to, I have a couple of good gauges with broken faces.
It would have to be a tool/jig to be post able.
