I need to install a rear iso in a 1974 Commando. Is it possible to do this with the entire primary intact? It cannot be lowered down enough to clear. I would like to remove the front iso and shove it forward. I REALLY don't want to remove the primary because it has all the electric start stuff in it.

I did this over the last month and a half on a mk 2 850(bike is not on the fast track due to other projects). As I recall, I removed the rear iso bolt, head steady , and with cradle on centerstand, used an engine hoist to raise the back of the frame away from the cradle.., pivoting the frame up around the front iso pivot for access. Changed rear iso using conventional (non-vernier parts) and reassembled. An old fork tube drove out the iso parts. I think the secret here is to be able to remove the old iso and install the new iso in pieces. there was enough clearance for me to do this all from the timing side.

Then I removed the front iso assembly from the front of the engine and installed a vernier iso. Biggest problem I had was determining how to get the reassembled front iso assemble around the frame and onto the engine. I screwed around with this for a while until I found the right place. I think the engine had to be lowered with respect to the frame pivoting around the new rear iso bolt. Rather big job but definitely do-able. Hope this helps.
