Installing front disc pads is a real PITA. They want to fall out while trying to get the wheel in place. I've resorted to stuffing a piece of 1/4" plywood between them but even that is a pain. I'm wondering if a dab of Permatex Disc Brake Quiet on the back of the pads might keep them in place. Has anybody done this? (Or have a better solution?)

Are you putting the wheel back in with the calipar already on the slider?
Assuming you have the standard Norton brake calipar put the wheel on first then put the calipar with pads installed back on the slider. If you have the solid pipe from calipar to bracket and flexible hose then unbolting the bracket an possibly front fender should allow the calipar to come off without spilting the brake lines.

Yes, 'stick' them in position with anti-squeal paste or copper slip/grease.

And a dab of thick grease to hold the axle dust covers on while holding the wheel up into the forks and sliding the axle back in will help.
Better to have an extra set of hands.
