INOA Rally, Catskill, NY July 18-23

Who is planning on making this one?

Good possibility I'll be delivering the "Have it Your Way" Commando to the prospective buyer.

Yeef. 2,000+ miles ONE WAY!

Out of curiousty, does anyone know why the INOA Rally is always scheduled during the week and doesn't have any activities over a weekend? i.e. Saturday is the pack up and go home day?

I have an opinion...but it's not a good one. :(

paul if you do go to the rally try to plan it to pass my way as it puts you a little over half way.

Just as you say, this gives people the weekends for travel which allows more people to attend. Not sure why you would have a negative opinion about this. How would you schedule it?

Well, one thing I've notoced over years. Seems you can make the INOA rallies ... and STILL go to AMA Vintage Motorcyle Days !!! I'm not sure if it's coincedence; or on purpose. I've been going to it since 1995 now, as it's only 44 miles South of my house. It is 3 days of great vintage racing, a HUGE swap meet (largest in the world I think, lots of British stuff always too.) and rolling hills in beautiful Ohio farmland. I recommend all vintage bike nuts (like me) make it at least once in their lifetime. Cheers !!!

Mid-week to mid-week, with activities over a weekend. Travel on the weekend? Maybe it's just the crowd I run with. I dunno? We never schedule a bike trip that leaves on Friday after work or Saturday morning. Almost always Wed or Thurs after work is the time to hit the road. Then again, I'd never stay for 5 days no matter what the circumstance.

I know a number of Norton owners that have the same opinion.

Not complaining, just curious...I think they'd get more people if it was over a weekend.

There are 3 of us from the really deep south planning to be there :D

"If it were me..."

I'd plan key events for Saturday; that way there's a much higher chance people would be there.

Oh how I wish it was me.

this will be my first Norton Rally.Hope to see everyone there that I know or will get to know in the future.
As a newbie I was wondering should we have our screen names on display or is that a bad idea?

Yup...I think you're right.

Generally big event's run from Thursday thru Sunday and People that work during the week are more able to attend. Events that run during the week require extra vacation time to be burned unnecessarily and not worth it for me.

Regardless if it's on the weekend or not, most people will have to take off time to attend, especially if they live far away. If the event last year was on a weekend, how many days would it required for you to take off during the week to make it? By bracketing the event with weekends you have 9 days for travel and events (for 5 days off of "vacation"). If you hold it on the weekend and you still need 4 days for travel, you now have spent more time traveling that for the actual event.

Most people wouldn't want to travel 3000 miles or so just for a weekend event. Which is why they have it during the week.

Still most events run the weekends and it is more convenient that way. If it suits self employed, retired or local people more that so be it. I will save my time for other events.

Looking at the calendar, and checking on a few other things, we might visit Philly, see NYNY, make it short at INOA, see Niagra Falls, straight to Mid-Ohio, then visit friends in kansas on the return trip.

It's nice that the INOA & mid-o dates work well together.

I may or may not race mid-ohio, depending on WERA'S membership/race entry rules...

I'll be there, for at least a day or two. A buddy of mine is celebrating 40 consecutive years of Commando riding and he wants to have a big cake made for the occasion.. any body know how many people are expected? (Could need a BIG cake!).

My prospective buyer didn't pan out, so it looks like I won't be able to make it. Too bad, I would have liked to race Mid Ohio...
