Inlet upgrade?

Sounds really promising! Still want to see dyno figures though. Just waiting for the k&n filters to arrive and planning to use the setup for a track training day in April to help keep up with those pesky sports bikes. Sounds like I need a new catch 'tank' with feed in and breather out.
Yes , you will need some sort of catch tank. Will you be able to apply any tune for it with the OMEX , maybe the dyno tune shop works on OMEX ECU's ?

I currently have no problems with my Omex ecu so not planning a remap - just interested in benefits as it is. The ecu swap I would need to do, so I could remap it for a small hp gain, seems a bit of an extravagance when money could be spent better elsewhere.

I didn't mean for you to do an ECU swap. I remember now that you have free flowing long mufflers and have the map already installed for that .. At any rate , the feedback you can provide will help others moving forward. I don't expect many 961 owners will remove the airbox anyhow , I hope it helps you.

One of my early tuning adventures was with an RD250. My cunning works gave it a horrible bottom end, but at a certain rpm it all came together and took off like a rocket.

I was very pleased with myself and my new found prowess as local tuning hero. Everyone who rode it agreed I was a guru.

Until one day, I came across a box stock RD250... which proceeded to blow mine into the weeds!

All I’d really done was make the bottom end bad and the power come in with a bang. But in terms of actual top end power, well I’d killed that too. It just didn’t feel that way.

Moral of the story: beware the arse dyno...

Point well taken , Let's see what Clive thinks after he tries this. Also , been meaning to ask you how long the key fob battery in your Harley Key Fob lasts ? Mine has CR2032 battery and HD say replace every year ?

I don’t know about the key fob battery Tony, I‘m taking it for a service soon so I’ll ask them.

Always carry a spare for peace of mind, ref fob battery.

I know what you're thinking ! What did this guy do to his bike !

Inlet upgrade?

This big gap is needed to get the seat on or off and for free breathing .

Inlet upgrade?

And as Free Spirits of Italy says : " All upgrades are easily and fully reverseable "

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Those number plates are the first addition to your bike that I find questionable. :(
I know they are just temporary, but really, why not just spray them flat black to keep them low-key.
Unless, are you planning a track day?:p

Are they a little too loud ? I think maybe smaller numbers ?

I kind of like them as they are, but my wife assures me I have no artistic sense at all.

What gains would be had if the stock air box had holes drilled or cut into it?
or if the bottom and back were cut open and pod filters were used inside. This would keep the original looks.

I don't want to permanently change my only air box . Now if I could get my hands on another air box , I could work with that.

Sorry. I didn’t mean you personally. I just meant in general.
I have a brand new spare box. Just not sure real world gains would be worth the murdering of a box. If it was worth adding some real Hp / Tq gains maybe. But without dyno testing before and after it’s all just a guess.

Have the bits now and a pre-mod Dyno run booked for next Friday. I keep doodling alternative side covers and would like to come up with something that looks the part - carbon fibre maybe or a mould taken off the original airbox? Sorry Tony - I think you show great promise as a bike designer but I'd hang onto that day job for the moment until your talent is recognised......

A little thought looking at the K&N filters - it would be nice to change that sharp lip inside the filter to a smooth flowing corner or am I overthinking........

I would like to see the sharp lip you are referring to. The intake pipe should meet that first step about 10 to 11 mm into the flange ID ? There would be some advantage to matching the intake funnel where the intake hose meets the throttle body.

Hi Voodoo , You have a spare air box ? Commando or Domi ? At any rate if you don't mind PM me with what Norton are charging for that , Thanks

Hi Clive , Until someone here actually does this intake modification I will just have to keep doing things my way . :)

Hey Tony you could have an idea for a song there... The sharp lip is from the K&N rubber flange into the filter itself. There are probably areas more worthy of attention. I bought light grey silicone 30deg bends so keen to see how they look.

My color choices were red , black or blue .
