What?

You think that a hub that has several cracks and looks like it could fail is a possible safety issue??

You wanna be careful mate, you’ll get labelled a scaremonger, and negative…
No, if you assume that a wheel with cracks means that every wheel in every situation on every bike has cracks and use it to deride 961's and the only time you bother to login to the modern forum is to take a know it all doom and gloom, I told you so, pot shot - it will be pointed out as such.

Seems fair enough to me.

Can I ask if you chucked up the bolt to cut down the threads ? How did you do it and looks like a good solution .
Hi Tony, yep I have a small lathe. When do you expect to get your wheels?

What wheels are you talking about Tony? Can you share a link ?
Voodooo found them on ebay and posted it here .

Do you remember talking about CKD complete knock down Norton 961's going to India some time ago ? This may be part of that enterprise possibly ?[/URL]

You weren’t tempted to go carbon then Tony ?
Oh I would really like CF BST but a bridge too far for me. These were on ebay and they took my offer so I couldn't come close even with used . It was price point driven and if the wheels were silver I would have said no . So , color and price won the day . And if they arrive undamaged and fit for purpose , maybe I can pretend they are CF because they are black .

There are failures with the carbon wheels too.
Magazine articles pushing their advertisers wares will say the breakage claims are bunk or no longer a problem.
Sport bike forums have lots of folks with delaminated cf wheels, cracked spoke attachments etc. Probably these problems are all due to some type of abuse, hard wheelies or pothole contact.
That stuff does happen. Well maybe not the wheelies, but the potholes will always get you now and then. The pothole hits will sometimes break a spoke or bend an alloy or steel rim, however it's is usually fixable.
With carbon fibre I think it's game over once there is a crack anywhere on the wheel.

You will have to start a thread to report about them. I thought about buying a set just to check them out.

@Voodooo im pretty sure I remember those wheels as being listed for probably the best part of a year - had you been watching them for a while? I’m asking as I kinda wonder how many they have and how long they’ve been listed.

That info could help people who are considering making an “offer” on eBay for them to get the best price.

I’m not sure about the time frame, I just noticed them the day I posted them here.

We have some awesome roads around the Sunshine Coast hinterland but also our fair share of potholes, which appear like magic every time there’s a big storm. The reason I’ve kept the standard wheels - one big hit on the BST and I could be swapping them back in a hurry. ‘Pays yer money - takes yer chances’!

yes its been at least 6 months I noticed the first set on there.

Well regarding these front wheel hubs on our 961 Nortons
ive just changed mine (for a new type) and I can say just in time.
one side has all blocks but one cracked and the other has one lifted block and four
Blocks cracked.
I inspected the new commando front wheel at the London show on Saturday
and I can say there much thicker blocks (better design) then the early ones plus the spokes
are thicker.
But all I will say beware when changing yours for the new type ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,🤔
🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔well you can find out yourself
im happy I’m on the road again :)

This is a very worrying development, thanks Cliff for bringing it to our attention. There doesn't appear to be enough metal around the holes.

I've checked my bike this evening I cannot see any problems yet but I will look again tomorrow in the daylight..

My bike is a 2018, it's difficult to tell but I think mine appears to have more metal around the spoke holes, what do you think?

Hi Gazz your spoke blocks are of a new design you can see there is more alloy on the side wall
and have rounded corners.
These are the same as the new bikes on display at the London bike show this weekend
so fingers crossed they don’t crack.

Glad you're sorted. Did you change the wheel, or manage to get a hub?

And why beware? - please explain.
