Recently got a pair of Ikon 7614 at a bargain price. Can anyone who has them fitted give me a start on how to set the spring up, as in how much thread showing from the bottom of the collars to the bottom of the thread in mm please. Rider only approx 14 stone. thanks . I know there are earlier posts but nothing clear enough to me.

You need to set the sag and not fix to a set no of mm, static sag on the rear should be 1/3 of the total movement. So with the bike off the centre stand and the rider on the bike 1/3 of the shock movement should be taken up. Adjust the collars evenly to achieve this, put zip ties on the shock shafts to see how much movement is being used.

Has anyone installed these on a roadster? Any fitment issues?

Pictures are a plus

Hi All, I’ve got a pair on my ’72 750. guidance from UK supplier is :

weight off rear wheel so units fully extended then apply 20mm of compression... so back collars off until spring fully extended, collars adjusted to touch spring then screw collar up a further 20mm.

however ...with bike lift supporting the frame tubes , collars adjusted as above, I get 10mm of extension by lifting rear tube AND then 10mm of sag when I sit on the bike when off the lift....so lost 20mm of travel already.I’m 85kg/ 13.5 stone .

Going to check with supplier tomorrow cos it seems too much lost movement... to me anyway .

+1 on the bump stop comment above.

You have not lost 20mm of movement, when you go over a bump the shocks will extend and use the 20mm up. If you don't have any sag then the rear wheel will leave the road surface on every bump.

Yep get that . Just questioning the amount ...maybe it should be more given progressively wound springs...have contacted Ikon direct and awaiting their comments..

If you purchased these from someone other than IKON how do you know what the spring rate is, they could be for a very light or heavy rider.

The right shock for a Commando is the 7610 - and it comes with progressive springs.

Ikon 7614 shocks

Both the 7610 and the 7614 with the appropriate longer bottom section which clears the chainguard will fit a Commano. In fact Ikon have 4 options for Commando from the cheapest Basics up to the most expensive 7614. Plus options for spring weight and body / spring colour.

Their website is pretty messy but I have talked directly to them in Australia.

The springs are marked, early Koni ones are colour coded and later Koni and all Ikon springs with a number code. Cross ref list is on their site.
