I've got an intermittent (of course) problem with my ignition switch. This switch is not even 2 years old, as I have a receipt from the previous owner. What happens is that sometimes when engaging the first click (On), the contact is intermittent. I can tell because my ignition light will go off if I jiggle the key. Normally I run in the 2nd position (lights on), so it hasn't been a big deal, but lately sometimes even then it doesn't' make proper contact. My question is, can the switch be opened up so I can attempt to clean the terminals and spray some contact cleaner in there? I'd rather not have to buy another switch if I can help it.

Thanks as always!

The back of the switch is crimped in ( the tufnol insulator with the electrical terminals). I tried opening one up recently but didn't manage to uncrimp without cracking off parts of the outer case so couldn't reuse it.

Have a go anyway, there's not a lot to lose.

Beware crap imitations of the original. Sparx made a diabolical rubbish one, fall aparts.

Are you sure that it is the switch. Is the ignition dead (won't start or run) or is the light just out? I had a similar problem and thought it was the switch. I jiggled the switch and the ignition light would light or not light depending on chance. When I jiggled the ignition light bulb it lit, probably not good contact. Starting problem was ultimately the power to the Boyer but fooled me into thinking it was the switch. Switch is expensive.

No, I'm pretty sure it's the ignition switch. The engine will quit when wiggling the switch.
