I'm thinking of outing a new Bosch 12 volt (30,000 volt) coil in my 68 BAA 441. So I have to do anything else like change gap settings or anything like a differant condenser etc??? Thanks..

Some Bosch coils require a ballast resistor and some do not....the instructions should specify if one is needed and if not you can generally tell by checking the primary resistance...the points and condensor don't need to be changed or adjusted

If coil is for an electro brained sparker then contact the maker or check the specs or manual which should state what ohm resistance the sparker likes to see or can tolarate then pick the color or shape or best ad PR on coils or coil pack ya like or want to afford. Coil voltage only need rating above say 20Kv as spark will jump before full advertised superduper voltage ratting is reached, unless of course in a top fueler the mixture is essentially an insulating liquid to blast a spark into.

I have an extra new 12V Bosch blue coil bought last winter. According to Bosch internet folklore the blue coils made in Brazil are the "good" ones. That's what this one is. Was going to use it on the Matchless G3 for 12V conversion but it was too big in diameter to fit under the tank so I just went with a Lucas 12V equivalent to the 6V coil in there. If you havent got the Bosch coil already I'll give you a good deal . I don't have the specs here at work but I was planning to use it with a Pazon Sure-fire ignition which requires a coil of at least 3.0 Ohms minimum.

Check the clearance under your tank. On mine it measured like it would fit under there but it was impossible to lower the tank down over the coil.

I very well may take you up on that. I have one I thought was 12 volt but it's only 6. I can use it to see if it will fit and get back to you.. If I do use it with the stock points can I keep the stock capacitor? Or do I need to get a differant (Bosch) capacitor? Thanks, Glenn.

Should be fine with the stock capacitor. They are all about the same value and voltage rating. (something like ~0.25 microfarads @ 200-300V)

Link to info on Bosch blue coil. This guy is into it! http://www.ratwell.com/technical/BlueCoil.html#buy

It is a big coil when you try to shoehorn it under a motorcycle tank. Can is 2" diameter X 4.5" long -- with coil tower it is 5.75" long overall. There is a wider crimp on the can at the tower end (making it maybe 2-1/4") and this is what would not make it under my tank.
