Identify what I have

So I was given this bike a little over 10 years ago with no documentation and I just got it running after it had sat a long time but I'm wondering what I have. I believe it's a 1972 Commando Fastback with the Combat motor.

2012xx is my engine and gearbox number. I have no frame number. I believe I can get a new tag and then punch it myself.

I also have a few spare parts that I am not using that I don't know what they are for either but they are not priority.
Spare Frame: 1372xx
Spare Gearbox: 0401xx

I think 1972 Fastback with combat motor because according to this site http://classicenglishbikes.com/tech_file/norton.html the Fastback was introduced at 200001 and then the first combat motor at 200976. I know I have a combat motor and I believe I have all the fast back parts except the front fender. I think the Fastback is only the rear spoiler, seat, tank, and front fender correct? Like I said I don't know what I have, this bike was given to me with no documentation for it but now that it runs I want to make it legally mine. Also when applying for a title what would I apply for it as a Norton Commando or Norton Commando Fastback?

1372xx would make it a 1970 frame.

If the number is 040122 and the digits are raised then it's the gearbox shell casting/foundry number so it's basically irrelevant except that it makes it a pre-Mk3 Commando gearbox shell.

Okay I see what you are saying looks like on the link you added the "Vin" is in the same place just on the other side. As far as my 2012xx am I right in that it is possible for it to of been a 1972 Commando Fastback with a combat motor?

The gearbox serial number (usually the same as the engine and frame plate number) is stamped across the top lug unless it's a replacement gearbox case or the serial number has been ground off?

Yes, it's possible. Has it got a disc front brake?

Either the UK NOC or VMCC records sections might be able to answer the question but they usually charge for the service.

Andover Norton should also have any copies of the existing factory records for that 2012xx serial number.
