Someday we will be able to order a 3D printed barrel with proper fin spacing nil waste or skill involved. Jim Schmidt knows as much or more than anyone on how to create a competive wining race bike out of essentially all original Norton parts. Leave a snail mail Alan again & I'll return the favor of the DVD's with a copy of JIm Schimdt's Race Manual that might apply to some of what ya got left in your 850 alcohol drinker. Also Duntall's too. Will give me more room for the ever growing thickness of notebooks of paid invoices I'll never add up but by weight.

.....I don't think that there are many guys capable of doing what comnoz can.

+ 1 - I believe you're right about that !!

It is amazing just how good some guys are. I can think of about three offhand in Australia who have similar capabilities. Have you seen the Irving Vincent which was built by Ken Horner ? It is supposed to be an historic bike, however it is something which is not a Vincent. We also have Jerry Kooistra who has an engineering business and builds excellent Honda (CB77) 350s. Just across the ditch in New Zealand we have Bruce Verdon building the TTI gearboxes. None of them are slouches. The next town to the one in which I live is pretty much the centre of motorcycle special parts manufacture in Australia. There are three excellent providers there.
I know most of these guys are old, however there are still some kids coming along who have the technical wherewithal to carry the flag. You can be pessimistic and believe that the world is coming to an end, however looked at objectively, there is some really good stuff happening.
I think however that Jim is pretty exceptional in his attention to detail and his modernistic approach. I love the stuff he has posted on this forum - it is very inspiring.

There are quite a few, but they are building things like F1 Engines, and aircraft like the F35. We mortals don't often get to see this quality of workmanship up close and personal.

OK, how about this.

1. We kidnap Comnoz.
2. We kidnap Ludwig.
3. We lock them in a room (with all their tools) and tell them they can’t come out until they design and build a 325 lb electric start Norton.
4. When they're done, we let them out.
5. We DON’T ask how much it will cost.

If they only could put together an episode of Café Racer of these two guys I think I would watch it again. It would take the show to a whole new level. 8)
