I'm replacing the alternator and was wondering what the best way to keep the engine/rear wheel from turning when removing the rotor nut?

I'd love one, but not an option right now. Can I lock the wheel with a metal bar in the spoke without damaging anything?

Put a block of wood in the primary chain against the sprocket and try to shock it off with a socket. 6 point is best.

Put it in gear. Apply moderate downward pressure on the brake peddle.

That's what I've always done. I believe that's the direction from the manual. Reinstall the brake pedal, apply force, Remove the nut.

Thanks! A little pressure on the brake and tap on the wrench with a hammer did the trick. Much appreciated!

My personal rule about Harbor Freight.

Don't buy anything until you are ready to use it and use it hard the same day or two. Not stupid hard, but hard like you would have to use it from time to time. Then if you can break it quick you can get your money back. If not, you got a good one. If you wait too long, then they just do replacement, who wants another one if you can break it?

Example 1 - bought 2 angle grinders for 14.99 each on sale (I have a MaK**a that cost $79.) The HF one sound like there is sane in the bearings, but for body work they work fine (then i don't need to change from wire wheel, to cutter, to grinder tools on one angle grinder.) Not bad for $28 total.

Example 2 - bought their version of a porto power, it was a POS I broke THAT guy in about 1/2 hour, wasn't even much of a hard job, not like I was going out of my way to break it.. Got my money back same day. So I bought a real Bl**kHa*k proto power and spent the big buck, but it is awesome, can't break that one.

I suppose one could try a replacement, but then you get in how much time you invest and is that worth it. My 2 cents worth.
