I´m emptying my 850 cyl head, so far so good, but the 3 studs in the pic also need to be removed since I´m having the head planed (?). They seem to be set with some kind of locking stuff, can you heat the area where they are set? I´ve cut the rear nut in 2 bits so I got 2 nuts to try the old fashion way, but no luck, they sit really hard. Can´t say I like the idea of heating just a small spot. Right now I´m thinking a metal flat bar with a hole and weld it on the studs, one by one, to get a good leverage, but I don't want to ruin the threads in the head. Buying new studs is a minor issue.

How to remove head studs?

Hello, if its Loctite holding the studs in then heat applied to the stud always worked for me. My 850 head studs pulled out off the head, I put in CNW head stud kit which has american threads going into the head, easier to get Americana inserts or heil-coils.

Get a propane torch and put some heat directly around the studs till you see some bubbling of oil at the transition between the stud and the head. These may have been loctited with red making it difficult to remove unless you use heat.
then use your double nut on the other end of the stud 26tpi I thinkz.
Cheers,

Thanks for the heat tip, worked great! Was sort of scared to use heat in such small areas, but no problems.
