just regular Commando road riding.
2500 miles or one year, whichever comes first - so, the non-existent "other".
Why would you drain fresh oil and replace a fresh filter after changing it when the bike is put up?Fresh oil and filter in the late fall before winter storage. Fresh oil and filter in the spring, along with riding season inspection. Fresh oil and filter in the middle of summer.
Valvoline VR1 20W50, Liquimoly MoS2, Wix 51348 filter.
My routine is likely overkill, but it's part of the fun of maintaining the bike. I should add that I change the trans fluid (Redline MT-90), in the late fall as well.
Cheers,
Rob
What kind of oil are you running? Each spring new oil and rear tire.
Usually around 8000 km (5000 mls)
Filter every 2 years.
yeah, right, sorry. I got caught up in changing the filter when I change the oil. This is only during the riding season though. From the fall to the spring the filter doesn't really do anything since it's in storage over the winter. So, in this case I just drop the oil from the case and tank (since it wet sumped over the winter), and put in fresh oil for the new riding season. I can probably reuse the same oil, but as soon as it comes out of the engine I just dispose of it. Filters are relatively cheap, and oil is now US$26 for 5L jug. so I don't lose sleep over changing the oil and filter often. Most of the time, I'm needing to add oil so an oil change at that point works for me.Why would you drain fresh oil and replace a fresh filter after changing it when the bike is put up?

Hmm , maybe a side trip into the U.S.A. is in order . N.Y. rally methinks a good reason .Valvoline VR1 20w50 Amazon. Castrol Classic 20w50 is now US$37 for a 5L jug. The prices were reversed a few months back. Not sure why Castrol has jumped so high and Valvoline dropped so much. Or rather, they have switched positions on the price pole.
