What is the price range for a nice running Commando 750? Not show room quality, but lets say a 90's restoration so it is very clean with only small aesthetic things wrong with the bike?

California. I am also wondering about a 1971 Norton (since that is the one I bought). I just want to make sure I didn't pay too much since I am new to Norton bikes.

Without knowing a darn thing about it, I'd say it looks to be about 5 to 6 grand worth of Norton. Or somewhere around $12 to $14 a pound.
Look very familure though.

It does look similar. It looks like you have red and gold vs red and silver. I also see you upgraded your brakes. That may be something I do in the future. Nice bike.

Mechanical drawing came in handy. I drew this up modeling it after picture on OldBritts site. Layed it over the center hub and center punched the points. Cast Iron drills like butter. 7/8 hole saw for the larger holes.

WOW! Didn't expect you to say you did the brakes yourself. That is incredible. Maybe you should make another one and sell it to me :)

Sammyman,
I too wondered if I over spent back in July of 2004.
I purchased a running 72 combat w/ 8000 orig miles for $4,200.
I thought it was allot at the time due to its tired looking appearance.
Well it was all cosmetic neglect because the power train was excellent.
Kinda lucked out for lack of a better excuse. I did not know what I was buying
as I never owned a Norton before.
6 years later and riding as I go along it has been an enjoyment.
My avatar is its current condition. She places 1st in most local shows as it is a
bike people don't see often.
Today, I would not except any thing less than $7500 for her.
I live in the northeastern part of the states.
Clean rideable bikes are $5000-12,000 in my area.
The higher number being something completely over done in the restoration dept.
Hope this helps.
If the red one is the bike you purchased in the picture you have a very nice bike enjoy!

IF YOU ALREADY BOUGHT THE BIKE...

What does it matter?

...nice bike, by the way!

There may be a wife in the picture and he needs ALL the help of his new friends. And if that is the case I doubt if you are in the minority.
Great looking bike!

The reason I ask is because I bought the bike without doing my research. I just loved its looks and sound. I normally know everything inside and out before making a purchase, including what is a decent price. This time I did none of the above, but the price was fair at sub $5k. Thanks for the input, and I look forward to riding my new purchase.

And yes there is a wife involved :)

Tell her we said you got a screaming deal. We'll back you up if she comes asking. btw, don't ever let her on the site. :D

I'd say you got a good deal at that price, especially if it runs and has no issues. I have more than that in my '69 and it is not even together yet. Luckily my wife expects me to have the head and bottom end redone to look as good as the P/C frame I just got done. She's a jewel (my wife and your bike).

On this side of the Pond they seem to be fetching around the $4.5K mark for a tidy one, so I'd say you did just fine.

Basket cases are fetching well over £2k
