How much did your Commando cost? (2016)

I figure my bike is worth about $200,000 if you take into account the initial purchase price ($150.00) plus several rebuilds over the years with my labour at $2 per hour.

My wife pays me $2 per hour to get me out of the house, so with all the bikes Ive worked on through the years, its a better return than my 401K.
I charge double time when the in-laws are in town.

I paid $5,000 for my 1975 MK3 roadster in 1996 with 5,000 miles on her. It was original, unrestored, and quite frankly perfect. No the E-start didn't work, but it had fresh rubber and a boyer. Literally, all I had to do was shine it up and it didn't take much of that. I'd add a picture if I could figure out how.
Cheers,
C

I recently bought this rough old Commando for $2600, which for those of us across the pond is £2000 at the current poor exchange rate.
On top of that, it's going to cost another $1300/£1000 to ship it back to England.
However, it will be worth it, as any bike with Norton on the tank seems to fetch a minimum of £4500/$5850 here.

I'm looking to do a resto-mod, as it's a '74 engine in a '75 frame.

I told my wife if I die first she needs to put all my old bikes in a container and ship them to the UK or EU to sell, she'll make a LOT more. That is some crazy money for that commando. Damn.

I don't wish to hi-jack this thread, but to make a point I spotted a Commando at a local dealership that is advertised as a project bike:

Price is £4799, which is $6334 at the present exchange rate ($1.32 to £1).
Before the EU Referendum, the exchange rate was $1.51 to £1, which means the asking price would've been $7216.

I had my buddy in Illinois view it and buy it on my behalf - therefore, US.
It's my third bike from the US, and each one has been a steal from where I'm standing.

Found what I was looking for yay! I paid 7,700 for a 1969 black Commando nice bike ready to ride , and a fair amount of new uninstalled parts including a brand new painted tank as a spare .

This thread is why I changed the password to my Excel renovation spread sheet, so SHE could not find it faster than I rebuilt it.
I paid a fair price when discovered in a barn after 44 years of peace with 1300 miles on it.
I then spent what was needed to ride 100 mph and know I had a reliable and safe bike.
Costs and expenditures are all relative...right?o_O

If you search my threads you can see my bike LAB was generous enough to host my pics . I can't post pics cause I spent all my money on the Commando and don't have enough money left to be a "VIP" member with picture posting capabilities . Yet that is ..

$4200 for a very well kept low miles E-start 850 in 2004.
I put the big Madass brake on it , alloy rims ( like em, didn't need them) and an x ring chain. Not much else has been needed. Tires, lots of tires. Those have been the greatest cost of ownership. Can't complain.
With the 20 tooth sprocket it rolls thru the mountains beautifully, lots of power.

I paid $500 ( able to run) for my '74 in 1978. I have since bringing it out of 38 years storage painted, worked and tinkered with everything, except overhauling the motor & tranny, managed to dump several thousand into it on a few upgrade necessities...... and it only looks so so.....
