Especially since "500,000 commandos were built since their launch in 1961" I have these stats from a reliable source. I am looking for a 65 commando as yet no luck.

If that is an attempt at sarcasm, then it's really not helpful.

Irony for what it's worth. If Norton Motorcycles ltd print tosh on their website about their own past models and others are quoting it as fact in publications on the Internet. Then how are enthusiasts new to the marque to know the true facts. Or is it just history being re written by people who just don't give a shit.

They aren't going to if you do that sort of thing.

Well the same has to be said for Norton Motorcycles Ltd and they have had these "facts" on their site for years.

If what they say (wherever they say it) annoys you that much I suggest you get in contact with them.

Nortons intangible assets are nearly £3.5 mil based on brand value ,I just think it's funny with that much riding on history of "the brand" nobody has checked the written word. Anyway it is laughable but what would be even more laughable is someone having the audacity to point out the mistake.

Again, tell them if it bothers you.
There's no point making a fuss about it on this forum so let's hear no more on the subject.

I picked this up in 2013 for $2,500 as a genuine "store find". I wish I had the cash to buy the other one as well at the time, but I still can't get over how lucky I was. Here's a before & after shot as I get the bike ready for the Rally next week. It's been a brilliant bike!

$10,000 Cdn. certified. 8 Show awards , 4 of which were Best In Show. 1976 MK111 model , one of the last Commandos made. Photos can be seen under rebuilds on this forum.

The seller said I could have this one for 7 pounds 6 ounces, said it was fit for a king.
Not perfect and not 100% correct but good enough for the girls I go with.
Since then I have spent about 3 henweights, 2 monkeyearns and a fistfull of dollars.
Every time I bring it around the man who says he is my da he tells me how it is too much motorbike for me . They can't be jealous without showing it.
The spot on the floor is from the gearbbox in my overhead hoist, it predates the bike.
When I mentioned the desire to the missus she said I needed a motorbike like she needed a pool table.
The pool table (used) cost me $500.- It goes with the bike when I die.
All the best.

I bought my 74 850 Hi-Rider new in 76 from Pete's Cycles in Mesa AZ. Could have bought a Mk3 for about $500 more if memory serves me right.
Changed out the tank and seat as soon as I could, we are both still on the road 40 years on.

When I built the Seeley 850 in about 1978, the rolling chassis cost me about $200. The motor cost $1300, and the gearbox with clutch cost $300. All I virtually did was make a set of engine plates and mounted the motor and gearbox. The 6 speed TTI box I recently bought cost more that all the other components combined. However if you haven't got the gearbox, you haven't got the bike. It is where any project starts and ends.

You and the little woman recently have a tiff? Best thing would be to get on your '68-'75 Commando and be amazed at how much fun one of this run of 40-50,000 motorcycles can be when one is not angry.

Nothing makes the stress go away like cracking the throttle on the old Norton and letting her unwind a bit.

A quick look on eBay and Craigs List right now says US prices range from 3K for rust buckets to 15K for totally restored upgraded show bikes. So, I'd say 5-7K is the range for something rideable with minimal issues.

I think I prefer the sound of my Commando to my 75 Trident if I had to choose. But, both sound great.
