When my Atlas was new and undefeated in the 'zero to ton' highly illegal street competition, I referred to it as 'The King". Later, when the Jap crotch rockets were everywhere, I avoided them and referred to it as 'The Big Guy'.

For several years now, actually since joining this Forum, I have referred to it as 'she', or 'the old girl'.

In this age of gender neutrality, I suppose I should refer to it as 'it'. However, it, has a negative connotation, "It", implies no attachment at least, and disgust at worst. It carries with it (no pun intended), no fondness of heart that I feel toward this machine that carried me on so many road adventures.

I wonder what term of endearment others call their favorite Norton.

Going sleepless in Bullard over this issue.

“Brutus” ,based on our early years , he looked/sounded so powerful , yet just couldn’t keep himself together and quit leaking .... now just the Norton , and reliable

Old Gal, or Limey Bitch when the need arises because she is English. Lower working class and a bit of an old doxy, but I do love her most.

The Domi natrix, she's demanded so much of my time and money.

If I had to put a name to mine, I'd christen it: Johnny Morris :)
(If you're a 60+ Brit it shouldn't be hard to work out why)

Mine I just call it Bike and when I get home from a great day out on it and home in one piece I tap it on the tank and say "Thanks bike" in fact I do that with all my bikes and if it has played up on me its "naughty Norton" but bike has never let me down except 2x with a broken chain, I didn't blame bike for those times, first time back in the late 70s doing one hell of a burn out and the second time a few years ago taking off pretty hard from a set of traffic lights and when I threw it into second bang and the chain rapped around between the primary and gearbox and was jammed so tight, but it only threw the retaining clip, so then not the bike's fault but my own.

This one is a she for now. I must talk nicely to her hoping she'll go back together nicely and not to expensively. When she gets fired up again, she will turn into a buck-snortin, heart stopping beast.

I'm one of those persons who never allocate a name to any of my bikes, I don't want to take them to bed with me!
To me, it's just a piece of metal that has an engine that serves a useful purpose, my spending a lot of time on maintenance and repairing it and trying to improve it is all the affectation I want to spend on it.

Believe me I don't want to have sex with my Norton!! The internet has brought our worlds together but it doesn't help us understand each other. I enjoy learning our different perspective of things we enjoy.

"Bitch" when she misbehaved, spews petrochemicals, or let's the Prince of Darkness win.

SNORTON in other times.

At work, my colleagues always considered the Norton as an anachronism on wheels, and called it "stoomfiets" (steambike)
It is the Stoomfiets ever since.
