Thanx for the thriller diller wheelie spiller!
There were two eras in my life that mimic the pecking order contests of bike 'clubs'. Half friendly like the movie the other half fighting mad both before and more so after. Early '70''s on P!! and early 2000's on against the grain set up Peel Combat. Takes a hard heart to rev & drop clutch to pop up a Commando like that and not best way for getting ahead. Sound track don't match the throttle use in movie.

I finally got to see how the stunt rider tripped out the corner, he threw in straight steer while nailing front brake. You have to get way down lower to get away with that w/o the brake of course.

Another thing that's fun to do in movie is locking rear brake to steer bike upright but in a skewed diagonal slide - sort of like a flat tracker crossed up but w/o the lean or foot down.

I will not rest easy till being able to do stunt riding on a prepped Commando minus the stoppies as don't think rear can lift more the couple inches before tire grip quits for front tire skiing. Started on crash cage to practice side ways barrel rolls, on purpose in stead of accidentally.

guy wasn't going 15mph when he wiped out - unlike a dubious person we all know but claim not too!

The movie was a cult Aussie classic from 1974 and filmed around the streets of Sydney. The race scene was filmed around the hilly areas of what is known as "The Lower North Shore" ie north side of the harbour.
It was a low budget film but surprised a lot people with its success here and yes it was a fore runner to Mad Max with at least one actor going on to star in that.

The original posters and signs for advertising the movie used to say "Stone-Take the Trip" ,while viewing it now it seems corny but in its day it had huge impact on the local bike industry and riders. From then on Z900's became very popular. Some of the origial film bikes survived most did not.
Every second rider from then on had to have a "Stone Bikini Fairing" as they became known as.
The stunt work on the bikes was performed by gun rider Craig Brown. There are more scenes from the movie on you tube.

A few years they had the 25th Annversary of the movie and thousands of riders turned out for the group ride.I did some repairs to fairing for a friend of mine who built up a replica of the red and white full fairing bike just for the group ride.

Language.HA HA that is Aussie English with its broad nasal tone, also known as "Strine" don't worry we think the same thing with some southern USA accents.

The mechanic in the last scene was actor Gary Mcdonald and also inthe links in the You tube clip, it is the same person but he is in his Norman Gunston comedy mode.In this character mode he just loved to "take the piss out of people" which some just could not understand and took too him too seriously.
AC- I was into HQ Panel vans as well, had some fun with it on the road and in the back too::))

Australian Slag - now there's a lovely phrase to use in public Matt.
Stone movie scene shows slow stunt riding not fast race riding. The only times I've broken axles, twice, or crashed in corners dozens of times was d/t stunt riding or at least attempting it on non track conditions. There is a difference that seems lost on the un-knowing. I have looked and looked for examples of Brit Iron doing stunts but ain't found any other than this movie scene. Oh I've seen some doughnuts and a burn out that about got away from them and a hill climber stall out but not what ya see nowadays I want to do too on an ole clunker Commando. On that note got Peels crash cage double tri-angultaed mocked up in PVC tubing this week. Will need helper to tip over to see where it touches down for snag points that don't spin bike just slide on the tangent with both tires about equal drag.

Nice soundtrack, I kept waiting for somebody to take off their clothes, or start tripping...or both!
