There are a few Cdo's in the works following hobot Peel's simpleton mods. So may see if it drives them into a wonderfully loony state as I am.

Too late my friend, already past the state of being loony

Have to agree lets face it owning a Commando requires a special type of rider/mechanic who is happy to blast away at 6000 rpm down the motorway whilst having that little nagging thought that at any moment the crankshaft/conrods/main bearings/mainshaft/layshaft may disintegrate and make life suddenly a lot more interesting. (Not counting the kit supplied by Steve Maney which is way out of my price range...but doesn't stop going to his website once or twice a month and just looking at the pictures....(Actually just realised I could afford a CNC copper gasket :D ).

Enjoy the bike and this forum that enables Commando owners from all around the world to get great advice etc.

My last post on this thread promise!!

First off if Peel handling was just theory, do ya really think I'm that stupid and out of touch with reality to broad cast what the rest of you are missing out on? Full linkage is the magic ingredient, if case you missed my real missionary message.
The new power plant is only to extend Ms Peels great advantage to over the ton, as that is how fast she's been tested on prior over powering the big dawgs in leans, whose tails wag their heads too stupidly for me to respect.

When do you expect the great Ms. Peel to be on the road and proving your theories?

I'm trying to get 'er done before I turn 60 in November. I guessimate about another $3-4,000 in parts and machining. But its Ms Peel so nothing ever works as normal or expected, Ie: crank should have been done a year ago but unexpected issues discovered so just now getting close to usable. i've having to invent a few things to handle detonation and wheelie's and hi centering and clear paths of big animals a horn is useless for.

I'm convinced Norton are deadly allergic to hi rpm so HI torque is Peel's approach to power but she is being built inside to take over 8000 if I even dare.
But even here Ms Peel is different because torque curve will have no fall off, just steeper rise as rpm build. She should always have more power on tap than I can use or hook up. Expect of course trying for a top end attempt, if I ever dare.

Anyone can have what I so enjoy with just the full link kit and fork mods. Don't have to even go fast to feel how uncanny it is to have a Commando completely disappear. There are so many splish splashes in unlinked Cdo's, from wind and road texture, [beyond nulled engine orbitals], me, you and everyone else just takes for granted, until you feel what I'm missing out on. Until others come on line, Ms Peel is a one in a row example. Only one other Cdo with rear link, the frist one tested, he too was surprised by the hands off ability to just body English surf around rough tights w/o effort. The front and head links are worth about 1/5-20% improvement, but rear is worth at least 4/5's-80% to me.

damit Steve, I leave you alone for a year and you let Ho go and get you in trouble again.

I may be the only one here that actually knows Steve and Hobot. You need to realize that they are two different people. Steve's ok, defiantly a touch looney, but Ho is way beyond goofy.

But I have to say, I have done track days, I've ridden my Norton on the track. I've ridden sportbikes on the track and in the twistys. there is no way a norton can keep up with a modern unless you're really insane riding on a twisty road that you have memorized.

Sorry Steve, I've ride old bikes and moderns against and with other people on old bikes and moderns. I like my Nortons, but any modern crotch rocket with an equal pilot will smoke it. just fact.

This thread has some legs! I think we should get it into some fishnets and paint it up like a tart!

Hey ho Rick,
Ugh, sometimes wish I really was completely separate from hobot. If you can't believe my riding life, for sure wouldn't believe my profession one, though I and others are only alive and thriving because of it.

I guess you've noticed by now I'm only picking on elite moderns not vintage. As deep down other motorcycles, except in straight drags are boring to me on Peel and not really my personal quest to contest with, 4 wd drive rally cars are and Race Karts. But if you can't relate to Peel out G-forcing and power planting sport bikes how would ya believe what I really seek as a pecking order mystery in turning capacity. Oh have I tried to practice Peels lines on my SV650, no way as just goes crazy before energy enough to use Peel's "Ricochet Rabbit" lines. I've given up to have much fun on moderns when leaned much.

I'm pretty handy on SV650 and glad to have it for open air commutes. Last time out before goat got me, a squad of very hi class Huyabrusa's made a wrong turn, so I calmly took my turn home not trying to excite them, but I heard one of them nail it trying to pass me in 100 yd before turn, so I beat him too it and left him out of sight by next turn then slowed way up in an open to see if he'd take the bait and he did, racing to almost catch up before the next set of turns, which I waited at legal pace till just out of sight then nailed it for a few turns to put a mile between us then slowed way down in the next 1/4 mile straight - obviously not going fast, repeated two more times till no more straights so just left em behind and went on home. A truck highway w/o a single marked speed warning sign. To me the SV650 is prefect example of corner cripple on non DOT race tires and modified suspension. pashaw. I swear I can feel the uncomprehending brain waves flash behind me, when I was so close then so soon after appear time traveled way ahead, hehe.

Its way better rush on Ms Peel when they exclaim, what an obsolete under powered object of disdain, to even ask them about tagging along,....
let alone qualifying it with ... - till I'm bored... then works out exactly as I stated.

Just can't get much satisfaction testing Peel on tarmac, but there's always my Master - THE Gravel to force me to squealing quivering worm level.
