High Rider tanks. Size compared to Roadster tank?

I'm thnking of going with a hi rider tank (if I can find one) for my MKIII and am wondering about the length of the tank compared to a stock Roadster tank. Can I use my stock MKIII seat with a High Rider tank?

I'm thinking of ditching my unused Evan Wilcox tank and seat on ebay.
 
On my Hi-rider with a steel tank and rubber band rear fixings I can fit a standard roadster seat - it looks to be the same length from the fixing bracket to the nose as the Hi-rider one.
 
Which Evan Wilcox tank and seat do you have? I have a Hi-rider tank I'm not using.

I've got a roadster tank, slightly larger and longer than normal and a matching solo seat. I love the look but I have always had a thing for High Rider tanks. I'm on the fence right now as I'm thinking of getting the MKIII seat pan redone with much lower profile foam and covered in tuck and roll leather. That and a High Rider tank would look neat-o I think.
 
A friend and member here just dropped off a High Rider tank for me to look at so Ill see what it looks like on the MKIII.

I tried to fit a High Rider tank last night and the thing would not clear the backbone of my MKIII frame. The tunnel on the tank is about 1/8" too narrow on either side.

Did not think the frames where different...

Interesting ... my Mk III was outfitted as a Hi-Rider when I purchased it a couple of years ago and was probably shipped that way from the factory. The tank is steel and fits perfectly with the stock '75 seat and with my Corbin seat too. Is your tank steel or fiberglass? Do you know what model year machine the tank was supplied with?

Maybe it's not a Highrider tank,i think the P11 is very similar.Any Highrider tank should just bolt on any Commando frame?..............hope it all works out you can't beat the look of them small tanks!!!................Andy

The tank is steel. I thought P11 as well since the tank should theoretically just fit on there.
 
The G15/P11 tank will have cylindrical tubes at the front mounts. You can see them on this Ranger. (I'm pretty sure this is one of Leo Goff's restorations)

Ron, were the tubes welded on to the tank or a bolt-on spacer type of thing? This tank had no cylindrical mounts like that, just two holes where a threaded stud would fit in. If I remember, I'll snap a picture of the tank before I take it back to my friend's place.
 
Coco , where on the tank tunnel is it too narrow ? I have the hi-rider tank that came on my MK 3 . I just went up in the attic and looked at it and it looks like the pics of the one you have . I took some measurements of the width of the tunnel . The narrowest reading I got was at the very back of the tank and it was 2.577 inches . I don't have the bike here right now and it's been a couple of years since I replaced the hi-rider tank with a roadster one .

Ron L you are at least somewhat somewhat correct regarding the pictured P11 . I recognize the yard where that picture was taken . That bike belongs to a very good friend of Leo's . I'm pretty sure Robin painted it himself and he also does a lot of his own resto work but I'm sure Leo had a hand in it . If I see Robin at bike night tomorrow I'll try and remember to ask him who did what to it .

It was the front of the tank that was causing fitment problems. I slipped the tank over a bare, unpainted frame and it barely fit over and I'm thinking the thick powder coat job on my frame was causing the edges of the the tank to come into contact with the back bone.
