All the suppliers I checked with like RGM, Old Britts, Clubman,,, etc say that the original heringbone patterned oil hose is out of stock. I want to replace my lines from the tank to the motor & back via the filter with some high quality and good looking hose. It seems like some American 3/8" ID hoses fit but not all do. Is it really some odd metric size??? Does anyone know of a good hose to use & who sells it? I want some good black hose, not the junk from my local Mcauto parts!

Parker makes a fine hose for this work find at Mc Master Carr.
4 5645K233 10 Ft. Low-pressure Sae Hydraulic Hose, Sae30r3, 5/16" Id, 1/2" Od, 300 Psi, Black, 10' L
5 5645K253 10 Ft. Low-pressure Sae Hydraulic Hose, Sae30r3, 3/8" Id, 19/32" Od, 225 Psi, Black, 10' L
Than if you order Double Pinch hose clams found on page 261. You have the best set up. Fuel injection clamps are a close second.

Herringbone is about as high quality as ever made. I'll take your discards and glad to know a new source if my ever wear out or get burnt up.

Thanks guy's. It looks like British only does have some!. I will also look into the stuff from Mcmaster carr, I saw it before and it looks like good hose I just wanted to be sure the 3/8 ID was correct. Some that I have tried on my new stainless steel oil tank banjo fitting (same size as stock ) were a bit loose. Must be cheap hose. Hobot, I would send you my old hose if you truely needed it, usualy I like to keep the old stuff around as emergency spares to take on long road trips, that way I know I won't need it!!! I was looking at the push on xs-79 hose from XRT, it looks very nice and was thinking of using a few polished hose finishers too just to dress it up. They look nice but can get a little close to crossing the line into the HD Billet bling thing.

Hopefully BritishOnly still has stock on the stuff I bought from them as it was high quality hose. I have seen some other herringbone hose that was of lesser quality. Let us know what you find.

I have been running hose from the local VW parts house on my 750. It is rubber with black braided cloth cover and comes in sizes 3mm thru 14mm (or so). It is used for fuel and oil delivery on lots of German cars. Below is a photo showing the smaller diameter line to give an idea of how it looks. It is a lousy photo but it is what I have handy. If I remember correctly I bought 8 or 9mm for the hose between the oil tank and the pump. I just ask them to look at the VW fuel hose and then select a size. I have been real happy with it so far.

I tHought about looking into the German hose. I have a 1972 Volvo 1800ES and a old Mercedes 280SE and they both use the Bosch D-Jet fuel injection system so I have had to find that hose. The good black stuff that is wraped with stripps of rubber and bonded was allmost impossible to find 11 years ago so I haven't even tried. It also cost something like $20.00 a foot too. I will call British only Monday and see what I can find. Thanks again.

Thanks gtsun, but I've got two sets of Norton hose, one removed from Peel the other still installed on Trixie, both still ready to go another half century. I like the cloth covered hose - will use some on Peel but fear it will be snagged and collect grim. So will work up various hoses in AN fittings till find my favorite. Only need a couple feet. Not very found of SS braid no more, expect for brake lines and maybe head feed.

I have Herringbone Oil line on my website, all I could find was 7" sections so that is all I have.
I should be home to ship in about 2 weeks.

how is the herrinbone situation working out?
It is the beginning of procurement season at my house.
As I gander at mine it looks to be herringbone with the addition of a faint red stripe running axially along the hose.
Has anyone been able to source this yet?
Sorry unclevinny, I can't see 7" lengths being much use to me.

No problem,
I have a bunch of it on-hand and I'm going to braided, stainless lines with Aeroquip fittings, the 7" sections are apparently only good for some pre-unit bikes.

I use a steel braided hose that I buy here in Hong Kong, it is not made from stainless and can be cut with a hefty pair of scissors, but it doesn't seem to tarnish or rust even over a period of a few years. I use a piece of shrink fit to make the ends look tidy and it is sufficiently malleable that a hose clamp fitted over the shrink fit clamps it nice and tightly. it costs about $2.50 a foot. it is available in different sizes and I have used it for oil tank feed lines, rocker feed lines and the large breather size that is needed for a post-camshaft breather engine. I would post some photos but am technologically, trichologically and numerous other '--ologically' challenged.

I ended up buying some hose made by XRP called "Push on CPE elastomar tube" in black. It looks like the heavy duty file injection hose used in older cars with Bosch systems. The 3/8 ID works great and I bought some nice XRP "hose end clamps" to dress up the ends. They are the same as the "Earls" ones. I thought about going the stainless line with Areoquip threaded end route but didn't. I kind of worried about all the vibration loosening them up.

Transmission oil cooler line from NAPA store sold by the foot. Herringbone and all.

hi Russ, no joy.
NAPA was open but apparently I have three heads 'cause that's how they looked at me when I asked.
Could you be so kind as to provide a part number?
